I think you get the whole weekend, but your sailor has to go back every night.  Search the Navy for Moms site for tips on that, since I heard things about losing a day or the entire weekend if your late getting back on base.

do- I have been to 2 PIR's so far. The last one I got a call on the monday before PIR saying I didn't pass my run on PT test so I will not graduate so don't come. Tried to cancel my rooms to find out I couldn't. Then tried to see if someone else on NMN needed them. Then got a call on tuesday for some security clearance info and he said you are still coming right. I am going to pass the run on wednesday and do BS on thur night. Won't get to march but I will graduate. Since we are 2 days out we left wed morning not knowing if he would graduate or not. Figured we could always turn around and drive back home the next day if needed but at least we would be half way. Then got a call wed evening 30 minutes out of Nashville our first nights stop saying he passed. He was out of breath as he had just finished but we were so happy and continued our trip. He passed by 3 seconds.

Navy Mom3, I love NJROTC!  I was a booster, and a substitute teacher for that class.  It makes such good citizens out of our kids.  I can't believe you are going to have to go through another BS.  My sailor had watch after BS so I didn't get a call until after 7pm!  Sheer agony!

Capricorna, it's great that you have family there-that just might be the way to go on a holiday.  They will all be so proud of your sailor. What a great way to celebrate the 4th!

You can also order off the menu as well. My middle son just wanted to relax, take a shower by himself and see a movie. Also to catch up on friends and what has happened in the world while he was at BC.

I'm originally from the Chicago area, so we're familiar with Navy Pier and downtown. We were just up there in March.   I don't know the far north suburbs as well.  That 07/01/2011 weekend is also the weekend of Taste of Chicago and Navy Week, plus the 4th of July, so it is going to be a ZOO downtown.  It is up to my newly minted Sailor to decide what he wants to do.  We might even just head over to my sister's house and have a party there with the rest of the family if that is what he wants.  The problem is, we don't know how quickly he'll be flying out to Pensacola. The Sushi bar you described sounds cute (I don't do fish :-< but I'll go where he wants!)

I will get to go back but not for 4 yrs or so. My youngest just started high school. And his plans are to join the navy also. Going to start NJROTC when school starts again.

I wish I could go back there again.  We flew into Milwaukee.  It was cheaper, the same distance, and less traffic (rented a car). On the way to Great Lakes, saw another restaurant called Appleholler.  We stopped there on our way back to the airport.  It was our last memory of the trip.  Another "so worth it" place.  It's like Cracker Barrel meets grandma on the farm.  However that was in the fall, so I'm not sure what it would be like in summer.
