Here is the website for the taste of Tokyo so you can see prices and hours. They close from 2-5 each day. http://www.thetasteoftokyo.com/

That is if you guys like sushi.

When my middle son did PIR in March is was still pretty cold out. So we did not go to the Navy Pier. But when my oldest had PIR we did go to Navy pier on the train. Which was pretty fun to do. You just have a pretty long walk from the train station to the Navy pier. But you can catch shuttles to get you there and back if you want. We ate at The Full moon rest. which was really good and just outside the base. The portions were really big if that is what you like. We also ate at an all u can eat Sushi bar that was really good. The plates go around in little boats and you just pick up what you want as it goes by. It is called Taste of Tokyo on McHenry rd. in Buffalo Grove. It was only about 6 miles from our hotel.

Yum - I just looked up Wildberry - it looks like a great place (but only open until 2:30 pm).  I wanted to go walk around LIbertyville anyways.  Thanks!

Hi d o ~  What was so good about Wildberry Cafe?  Food?  Ambiance?

That's really nice what your church is doing.

It's nice to see all this chatter on this site. That July 1st PIR sounds wonderful.  I almost wish I was invited again.  I'm sure it is something you will NEVER forget.  Wear a hat and pretend you're inside;).

The 1st meal was important to our sailor after PIR.  It's their 1st taste of civilian food again.  Someone suggested Wildberry Cafe on this Navy for Moms site, so we went there.  The best suggestion ever!  My sailor still talks about it.  We did have to wait a little bit, but it was worth it and we enjoyed visiting and hearing BC stories.  My husband had programmed it in the GPS before we got there so we went right to it after PIR.

I'm excited about something they have started at our church, The Rock in Winter Haven.  We are posting pictures of all our service men and sending them a care package around the 4th.  Then it will be an on going thing.  I'm the only mom that sent his big BC picture to the church, now others are catching on.  Hey, you've got to have a lot of faith to be a Navy Mom, as you all know.

Comment by Navymom3 is correct.  They can not be in uniform and walking around in public talking on the phone.  Once they get liberty for the day you are free to take them off base.  Lots of families go downtown Chicago to the Navy Pier.  Lots to do there.

Already have tickets and hotel reservations for PIR.  Wouldn't miss it for anything.  The 07/01/2011 PIR will be different - Centennial Celebration of RTC at Great Lakes - wish it weren't different (outside) but we'll make do.  Hope the weather cooperates!  The Navy always has contingency plans tho!  I understand about what they can do and have for liberty and all.   ptalinda - I appreciate the tips - you're wonderful.  Been reading on N4M since last December.

Take care and hope you all have a wonderful 4th of July.  Think of the new Sailors when you watch your fireworks - one will be my son!

oh so friday he graduates and we can give it to him, or Saturday when we see him?
Comment by navymom3 on June 15, 2011 at 4:45pm
Once he is checked into his a school since he is staying in great lakes I believe he should be able to have his phone. There are just rules he has to follow as to when he can use it and were. Like they can't be walking around in uniform talking on there cell I don't think. My son cannot take his to class with him. He just keeps it locked up in his room until class is done. They will have someone in there room to keep all valuables locked up.
