oh so once they get checked in and stuff they can come with us  and he can keep his phone or does he get it the next day

Once they have checked in you should be able to give him his stuff. Then they should be free to leave with you for the day. I know we saw families waiting for the sailors to come back to the nex after they got checked in.

whats a day pass, where we can give his his phone lol. i heard it takes like 3 to 5 hours to get checked in if his school is in great lakes
Comment by navymom3 on June 15, 2011 at 3:34pm
I think since his school is in Great Lakes that once he gets checked in they can get a day pass for the weekend. I know there is a group for sailors staying in great lakes for school. They would have the answer for that one. My sailor is in Pensacola for A school.

so how do we give it to them? just follow them cause i dont know where his housing for AECF in great lakes is
Comment by navymom3 on June 15, 2011 at 3:20pm
Yes you can give them there phone after they have transfered to there new housing. They just can't take it back to the barracks at BC. They are usually able to take there laptop also. If they are not allowed to use it yet then they just keep it locked up until they can. Most want the kind of underwear they like and socks.

Here's some helpful information if you're going to PIR-(graduation).  Once they are given liberty, they are allowed to use their cell phone and iPod & computer - but not allowed to take it back to base at the end of the day.  However, since most of them are being shipped out the next morning, you can arrange to meet them at the airport the next morning - they can hang out at the USO while they wait for their flight - you can call the USO at O'Hare airport for directions - it's pretty easy to find - it's right above the Delta Airlines - departing flights - and right near the security check-in - and you can then give them their phone and iPod.  They can use the phone but NOT the computer, so we did not bring that.  They are on restriction for a couple weeks as they try to pass Phase 1 at their "A" school.  They do have access to computers for short time periods - so they get to check their Facebook, etc.  Then, I got a call from him a few days after he got there - he wanted only his underwear & socks - only 6 of each.  Cute.
