Florida Mom - what part of Florida are you in?  I am in Pinellas County - I see the picture of your son - he is so handsome - aren't all men in Navy Uniforms Handsome???  I love those Navy Whites.  We (the Florida Moms) get together sometimes for lunch - if you are close - maybe we could meet up.

Florida Mom - Don't be afraid - I always say to myself - my young man was made from my own strengths.

The Navy intentionally makes life hard for him, to see if he is strong enough to withstand the pressure he probably will get when he actually goes underway,

Groton is a cool place and he will learn a lot.  I feel sure your son will do fine because he has a MOM that is concerned and has already given him the abilities to get thru a tough situation - remember!  he is your son - he is Navy Strong!!!  Hooyah!!  Talk to you soon - Linda  PS we all understand what you feel - by the way!

thanks navymom2013.  I'm not even sure if he is OS or QM but I'm confident all this will become more understandable in time. I'm very grateful for this forum. Today it all hit me and instead of all the pride and respect, I added fear. As I have learned for my own sake, "one day at a time" certainly applies here as well.  Thank you for being here for me today. I'll stick around, learn the language, and hopefully be able to help another mom who feels like me.

Hi Florida Mom - congrats on your son's accomplishment - he made it thru the toughest part - Boot Camp .  It does get easier as he moves on and you will start understanding terms they use - what is he going to become - my son is ET NAV - he is in navigation and is just about to complete his schooling in Groton and by the way - take a trip there if you haven't already - it is lovely this time of the year - Good luck to you - Mom - "we have the toughest job in the Navy"

We are here for you when you have any questions.

I'm new today. My son just graduated BC; he's now in A-School in GL; that's about all I know; still unfamiliar with short hand terms

MommaDukes - the little things that will make you cry... Had one of those moments myself tonight and it will be 3yrs next month.  He shared some pics that he took from this last underway, just got back last night.  As I scrolled thru them down towards the end was a picture of him.  As I said... It's the little things... Like an unexpected picture.

No problem.  I understand about the grocery store.  It's the little things that will make you cry.  My son's dog didn't warm back up to him until like the 3rd time he came home.  He growled at him the first time he came home and wouldn't let him touch him.  Weird because the dog missed him and always looked for him.

Kid in the box wasn't bad for us though.  We got shoes and shorts back.

thanks for the idea about self addressed envelope- will do asap(no address yet). Cried at grocery store after I didn't have to buy a bunch of my son's faves..

Kid in box came today... Cried at that- puppy was confused could smell his kid bit couldn't see him.

Hi jseif... Talk about some irony.  I had a mom comment on Pinterest and after we talked privately we found out our sons are both GM's.  Her son is new and just got out of C school and ends up my son went TAD on her sons ship for a month. Small world...

Hi all! It's been a while since I checked in last.  Glad to see there is more activity since the last time I was here.  MommaDukes - Been there done that.  My son is also an only child.  Write as soon as you can and keep them going.  And them self addressed envelopes and stamps.  It saves them time when they get to write.  We will be starting year 3 March 13th.  Work and staying busy does help.  I cried myself to sleep on a few occasions as well as on the way to and from work.  It's tuff at first but will get better somewhat. If you can plan on staying the weekend.  My son's A school was in GL as well.  He is now in CA. Good luck on your new adventure and enjoy.
