Suzi, on one of my other sites, a father had them bring back his son for a grandmother. It wouldn't hurt to call the Red Cross and see what they will do. I am so sorry for your loss.

My sailor is on the Uss Port Royal, He is staioned in Hawaii right now. He will be ther for another 2 yrs. He goes out to sea for deployment for 7 months here soon.

From what I understand, they don't get to go home unless it's someone in the immediate family (parents, spouse, etc). I'm sorry for your loss.

Anyone know how to go about getting Red Cross help to get someone home for their grandfather's funeral? Do they help for a grandparent? Do I call Red Cross locally or where my sailor is stationed?

I'm from SW OH and my son is on the USS Ramage. Any other moms out there from SW OH or who have sons on the Ramage?

Wanda, He is in cryptology and that is coding and classified stuff. That is all I really know because I am not allowed to know exactly, as with a lot of stuff with the Navy. He is stationed in hawaii until 2013 and then who knows where his adventures will take him. I also have a son in the Airforce too. He is in Japan. So proud of both of my boys and my nephew will be going into the Navy after he graduates here in June. He will be going into the Nuke Engineering.

Where in Ohio are some of you from? I am near Pittsburgh.

Tobianne, what kind of surgery are you having, if you don't mind me asking.

I am glad I found this group.

Suzi, I am not sure. With everything that has gone on around (these parts) here, I have not really even checked. That is sad. I use to be so up to date.

Right now, we are on hold for the "surgery". So my trip to CA may be sooner and less adventurous. So I may not even be here for it. They have to get this done or she will not be able to go on deployment.

Well as of today , we have 11 days of school/work left. No school tomorrow and the girls get out early today, you would have thought that with these days like this, none would have been needed made up. NOOOOO, they still had to make up 4. They added a half hour to the school day (in the morning wouldnt ya know) and added one day to the year so instead of June 3rd they are done June 6.

well I am ready.....

Suzi, you feel better? I hope the dr. gives ya some good medicine. I tried the gargle with salt water, but it just made me hurt worse (seeing how I was swallowing chards of glass... lol) and burned. I used cloroseptic, it helped a bit. and sucrets while I was at work.

Tobi.....of course I was talking about you.....always all good! Kayla is a great one to talk to. I will always admire her for her bumpy path. But, look where she is now?
BTW.....do we have a June get together planned for us OH Moms?

Wanda - Congrats to your son and your daughter!

Marcy, thanks! Congrats on your son! What is a CTR2? Is that Intel?

My son just arrived last week to Germany for his first duty assignment. He is in the Air Force. He joined last year.

Do you know if the sailor's get orders for their A School once bootcamp wraps up? I'm handling my daughter's student loans and they want orders for her A School so we can apply for an in-school deferment. They won't do a military deferment until she gets orders for her first duty assignment.

Wanda, how wonderful for your daughter, my son has been in for almost 4yrs now. He is in Hawaii and is a CTR2, second class petty officer. So proud of him, he has come a long way in just 4 yrs. I wish your daughter all the best and to you too. Is this your first one going in? I also have one in the Airforce in Japan.
