Tobianne, thanks for your input. This is the latest update.

My daughter went to MEPS on Monday, May 16 for the 2nd time this month to select her rating. She did select a rate. It wasn't what she wanted but she did not want to wait until next month to try again. She wants to join the NAVY asap! So she settled for "IC" (Interior Communications Electrician). She did state on her paperwork that if "IS" or "OS" comes up she wants to switch her rate. So as it stands she will be shipping to boot camp Sept. 21. She is excited because she swore in and signed her contract. Besides who knows what can happen now till Sept. So my girl is officially a "Depper". She was also excited about ringing the bell at MEPS after she swore in and signed the contract :o) I am very proud and excited for her.

Hi all, Suzi I saw your comment about Navy females... lol, I am (maybe I should not) assuming it was Kayla?? lol

Wanda, I would be happy to talk to you. I may even be able to get Kayla to text your daughter about her experience. I will say this, Kayla loves what she does (well she right now is doing school "again", but she is happy. As all of our kids they have their moments.

Woman in the Navy, they are treated pretty much the same. They motto that my daughter has been told and now lives by is... the Navy only see's blue and they see no sex!! So race is not seen, and gender is no issue. The females (as they are called and when she goes to BC she will learn to hate this word) can and do a mans job. Kayla is among males mostly. (well for her rate) well actually that is the Navy really. My kiddo gets along better with men that woman, the drama factor still rears its ugly head in the Navy, trust me, I have heard all about it.

Your daughter will do well, most do. She needs to go in with a clear mind, and the idea that no matter what happens she needs to finish what she can.

I will say this, they learn how to take care of themselves. I would not go against my daughter wishes and she is a stronger girl now than she was a year ago.

Good luck and send me a mess if you would have any questions. Now let me say first though, my kiddo is not and never will be on a ship. I can not answer that type of question, sorry. Suzi, we do have a few moms in our Ohio group with daughters, so maybe we can help this momma and her daughter out however.
