Mama - I do believe that things happen for a reason....and when it just falls in place like it did for your son, it just makes sense in a way. Sure makes it a lot easier for mom, too! :)
I would not have expected my son to end up in the Navy even though his father was in. But his path led him there and it has been great!

Wanda.. Suzi...

He did not have to wait to switch... he did a DOR (drop on request), I think that is with Spec Opps only and they reclassified him that day... The wonderful thing is the HM job was open for him that day!  That is why I felt so good about him going back to where he originally started.... it was meant to be!

Suzi-OH, my daughter has communicated on Redefined Women and she is logged in a couple of our groups. She's gotten some good advice from a few people so far especially one father who is retired intel (CTT) and has a son actively in intel and a nephew. Haven't heard about any females as of yet.

Mamawalrus - better to find that out now before he invested time and did not enjoy it. I hope he has a smooth transition

Wanda - does your daughter know any females already in the Navy that she could contact? I have a friend here with a Seabee daughter. I would imagine that there are some moms here who have daughters that would be happy to share their experiences. I know woman with Navy daughters, but don't remember their rates.

Mamawalrus, what is your son going to do? Will he have to wait a couple of years to switch ratings?

Mine PIR'd back in Feb.......he was originally with the Spec Opps for 8 weeks but decided his heart was not where it needed to be.. He originally signed for HM but before he left, Spec Ops fell into his lap per say and he went for it but realized HM is for him.......

Suzi-OH and Seadreamstudio, thanks for your support. :o) I am a true believer that everything happens for a reason. I know the timing must be right.
Now she's just trying to figure out which job she would like more, CTT or MC? Of course it all depends whatever is available. She's even willing to do OS or QM.

WandaG~ Looks like you are getting the Navy's first lesson... "hurry up and wait". I know there is something great waiting for your smart, determined daughter! ♥
