Hi Kathy, being a former Air Force wife I've had 13 yrs of exposure to the military life and believe it or not, not all the jobs are dangerous. It really depends on the job you have. Regardless of the job one is assigned, they all play an important role. I'm looking forward to learning more about the NAVY.

Thanks for the info Kathy. My daughter is very good about writing down all her questions before she visits her recruiter. The recruiter is also very good about asking her if she has any questions. It's funny, when she first thought about joining the military last year she visited the Air Force. They were not as welcoming as the NAVY. Maybe it was just that office. I don't know if all the Air Force recruiting offices operate the same way. But you could feel the difference. I definitely felt that my daughter did not belong there. I'm glad we took the time to investigate the NAVY. My daughter has her Bachelors and the recruiter will automatically put her application in for officer but she prefers to do the nitty gritty of the job first before managing people. Plus usually the wait is longer to get in and she prefers to get in as soon as possible. She will definitely apply for officer if she ends up as an enlisted first. Thanks again!

My daughter just started attending the DEP meeting last Thursday. I will ask about the Daughter in the Navy group. I haven't heard about that. That's wonderful to hear about your daughter. Good luck, I hope she does well.
My daughter wants to know what is involved to become a Petty Officer, such as, what is in the test, how long is the test, how much preparation is involved, how long do they require you to be in the NAVY before taking the test, what are the requirements to become a Petty Officer? Sorry, we have lots of questions. Any information is helpful. By the way, what does DC and AS stand for?

Thanks Judy, I will do that.

Good Morning Wanda, SR stands for "Seaman Recruit" which is what your daughter's rate is going to be once she starts BC "Basic Training"!!  There just so happens to be a site here for Naval Basic Training, just go to groups up at the top of this page and join!

Judy, I'm sure you're very proud of your son The reservist also have an important role in the NAVY. What does SR mean?

Suzi_OH, my daughter has not signed a contract yet. We handing in preliminary paperwork on Tue, March 15. She will be taking her ASVAB the end of this month. Although she has her Bachelor's Degree, she has chosen to go enlisted. She prefers learning the nitty gritty of the job first before she starts managing people. What is AWV?

Hi everyone, I just found this group!! Guess I was not expanding my horizons. I do know a few of you.

For the rest my daughter is waiting to leave for her first duty station, she is a CE. She will be at Port Hueneme CA.  She is a Seabee. She loves her job, and loves her unit.

Some know, she has overcome some very odd things in her time so far. I am proud of her, she never quits. Some of the things she tells me, I know I would never do.... ahh a different generation of kiddo's that is for sure.
