I hope you all are having a wonderful day!  I just have a question, me and my husband have a joint bank account and for that reason we decided that we won't get a power of attorney, which now i realize as a big mistake. He signed up for "Navy bank". Now I am worried that I won't have any access to his money and I won't be able to afford the trip to GL for his PIR.. What do you suggest we do?

Can he wire me money while he is in BC?

I guess i could drive to Great Lakes all the way from San Francisco and just sleep in my car just to be able to attend PIR.

Please help!

Hey there! When is his PIR? Did he set the direct deposit up through your guys' bank or through Navy Federal Credit Union (I'm assuming that's the Navy bank you're referring to)? My husband set up a NFCU account but set up direct deposit into our "regular" checking account so I could still have access to it. It would've been a good idea to get a POA but since you didn't, don't worry. You could ask your husband to send you a check, depending on when his PIR is to have enough time for him to get your letter, send you a check, and for you to obtain that money. I'm not sure if they have access to wiring services. I might call the bank and ask what they recommend...some banks don't even accept POA's even if you had one. If you send the bank proof that you are his wife (marriage certificate, SSN, etc.) they *might* be able to help you out and grant you access to the account. Their toll free number is 1-888-842-6328. As a last resort, (athough I am not a believer in credit cards for regular use) if you have one you could use one and pay it off IMMEDIATELY once you have access to the Navy Federal Credit Union account.

I don't think it'd be safe for you to drive from SF...that's a lonnnnng drive and the gas might cost you as much as a ticket! If you have your military ID you can get a discounted rate from cheap hotels (look under the PIR reference information)...there are a lot of hotels in the area that are cheap.

I hope this helps. Good luck! :)

His PIR is not till 7/8/2011. Thank you so much for the info. I guess we have enough time to sort all this out before his PIR. Again, thank you!

You're welcome! :) I'm sure you will be able to sort it out by then.

Have a great night!
