My husband is away at BC right now and I am having some trouble understanding the insurance. I filled out a application that said Tricare in the top corner. I received my Tricare Dental card in the mail. But I'm confused as to my regular insurance. Do I get a card for that in the mail as well? But I have also been told that my Military ID card is my insurance card. Is there any truth to that? And if it isn't true, then what are some of the steps I need to take to get my insurance card?

You do not receive a card for your regular insurance....your Military ID is your insurance card.
They do issue cards, but are normally slow to do that.  You can use your Military ID as your card for the time being.  Do you know which Tricare you signed up for?  You might want to call tricare and find out, because you want to make sure that the doctor you're choosing to go to participates.  Or you will be paying most of the bill.  Are you near a Military Treatment Facility?
I have been on Tricare for 5 years and have never received an insurance card.  So if they do issue them, it's new.

My husband is also at BC right now and i have spent quite some time trying to get all of it straight myself. You are enrolled into DEERS as soon as you get your military id card. With that you can use any military facility.

If you are not near one or are considering Prime, then you can sign up, find providers and make all of your plan changes online. To do that, you can go through tricare website to "enroll" They give a step by step guide. First is to verify the DEERS information through the mypay link. At the MyPay sign on screen. Click on create an account and follow through to the instructions for getting your email registered and a mypay password. I had to fax the request over. That takes two days and then you should be able to access everything online.

That is as far as i have made it and to be honest, it took quite some time to get here :) Good Luck. I hope this helps.

Hi there :) I tried to go through DEERS but it immediately prompts me to put in my SS# & a password. I assumed it wanted me to make up a password for my account but every time I try, it says its the wrong combination. Any ideas? Thanks so much!

You have to register your email first by faxing for mailing them a request, I made a copy of my id and wrote the info they asked on it. It took exactly two days for me to be able to sign in with my husbands ss# and they give you instructions for the password on the fax info sheet. Follow the "Register" or "I dont have a password prompts" until you find the instructions for faxing your request.

Oh and I also called the DEERs number because I just wasnt sure and these were the only instructions they left over the vm system too. You must register youremail first.

Please feel free to message me direclty if you need more help.

Thank you everyone for your help! It is greatly appreciated!
Hi NW EGS, I wanted to let you know I was able to finished the process of enrolling into Prime yesterday. I was able to do it all online and could see the benfits and all our family members. That made me feel better to actually see it all listed. Message me if you need any help with the process.
Thank you very much! I'm going to give it a try and see how far I get. I'll keep you in mind if I need any help!
