Go to "Settings" above to set your Username.  While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups!  Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself!  Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility. 

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.  

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed.  Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

My husband and I just got married july 31st. He leaves for basic nov.9th. Too soon for me ): I am very worried about the fiancial aspect when he leaves. He is the sole bread winner for our family. How will I support our bills? Does his paychecks come home to me? Or do I need to look for a couple jobs to support myself? I know in the end the navy will help us health benefits etc but what do I do for the 3 months he's gone? Any advice would be great!!

We have taken about the same steps as elizabeth. We made a budget early, started using coupons, had a garage sale, my husband picked up extra work (I stay at home), and we saved as much as we could. My husband is starting week 2 of boot, so I am hoping to recieve the health benefit packet soon. We also were able to make enough at our garage sale to pay for our travel to PIR. I was so thankful that my hubby and I worked together to make this happen and give me some breathing room while he is gone. Now I am not saying we saved a fortune, it is all spoken for in one way or another, but we sat down together, made a plan, and put it in motion so he wouldn't worry and I wouldn't have to scrape by. I recommend at least saving two months of rent and utilities. This will help the gap between pay. Also, it is my understanding that no matter what rank he goes in as, he will get E1 pay while in basic.

My husband is HM and A school is in GL. I don't know if they will consider him grad n go. I got a call on day 4!! It scared me, I thought something was wrong. All is good, but no letters yet. :(
My son (4yrs) cried to me today like I had never seen him cry before. He said he was lonely and needed another boy to play with bc dad was gone. Jeeze, broke my heart.
We just talk about it. I often repeat what he has said so he knows I am listening. Ex "I am just all alone." he said. I responded "I am sorry you feel lonely, lets talk about it." We got him a map for his room and put a colored push pin where we are, and one where Dad is. This actually turned into more of a geography lesson, but I wanted him to be able to visualize the distance. I did tell him he is at work, and we watch some of the youtube videos together. Every day I tell him that dad is thinking about him and can't wait to talk to him. I dont want his confidence to be effected by their seperation. We are "a glass half full" kind of family, so we try to put a positive spin on every situation. But we know that crying cleanses to soul, so I just hold him and we pray.
Things are def better today! I guess the tears helped!

I just became a Navy wife as of YESTERDAY lol, all your questions are ones we are asking the recruiter when he comes over next week! My husbands ship date is March 15 or sooner. We were also married in July. So congrats to you! We just celebrated our 7 year!
awe thanks! you won't be the oldest with your man in boot, I'll either be 30 or 31 depending on when he actually leaves lol!

Very good advice. My husband leaves Sept 7 and we have done a financial plan I guess you could say. We are saving up money plus I am going to have a part time job. I also want to say spend as much time with your family nearby as you can while he is gone, thats what I am doing. I know when my hubby gets done with boot and A school (its going to be a little over 4 months ) and we move to where he is stationed I dont know when we will visting home. So my thing is I want to spend as much time with his family and mind so if I dont get to see them for a couple of months or maybe a year I will be okay. Now if were stationed in the same state then maybe I will back off but since you dont know that til 2 weeks before A school grad I want to be safe. But I know if you have any important questions ask your recruiter so you can get the most accurate answer.
I got married to him while he was in A-school, but I wasn't self-supporting at the time.

He set up some automatic bill paying online with his account. Every two weeks, my credit card debt gets a piece, his different savings plans get a piece, the only money I can touch is a household account, and then it's his discretion to buy non-routine items. I do have his passwords if I need to transfer some money from the saving account for an emergency.

It's very elegant to have such a set budget. He increased the household allowance after I had a few issues, but now I'm managing to stay in the original threshold.



For your case, his first few paychecks may be a bit lean, and the BAH might take a while to show up in the account, but you should be drawing the BAH from day one.

Do what you can to survive those first few months, the money will come.
I'm confused. I thought my hubby would get his pay grade (E-3) while he's in basic... I'm really glad to know I'm not the only one with a little guy! Our son is 18 months old and a total daddy's boy. We're doing what alot of you all suggested, saving as much as we can. Don't the guys with dependents get more in their paycheck anyway? I know we were told to prepare for his first pay check to be low because it would have quite a few deductions for various things taken out. We can get insurance while he's in basic?
