Welcome Mary, I am sure you will find so many Mom in your situation to relate to.  You will want to find out what SHIP he is on so that you and the other moms can start to create your get together for the night before graduation.  Welcome to the journey of Navy MOM.
Any idea when i can get that info. Does it come in the pkg i am waiting for???
You will get a letter in about 3 weeks with a brochure and info. about the graduation, where to stay etc.  When my son graduated this site wasn't developed yet, so it was really difficult to get information.  You'll get alot of info. on this site.  If you go to the main poage you will see alot of discussions about new sailors and PIR, etc. so check all those discssions out.  The first thing you will get will be a big box with your son's civilian clothes.  when I got it, I had no idea what it was!  I wondered why my son was mailing laundry!

Welcome Mary. My son has been in the Navy for about 2 1/2 years now as a Reservist MAA(Master At Arms). I think it is iharder on us Moms, then it is on them. I actually tried to convince my son not to join at first, but once he made the decision I stood behind him 100%. Looking back I have to say it was a good decision on his part. He is happy with the Navy and has had many accomplishments with the Navy to be proud of. Yes, the deployment was rough(more on me probably then him) yes it is hard to see them go, but it is a great growing experience for these young men and women.

Where in NJ are you from? Let me know if you need anything.

Judy

Hello Judy. I am in Tabernacle NJ. (south central burlington county) You probably have never heard of it because it is very rural. The closest town that might be familiar would be Medford. My son Bruce is also gonna train for MP/MAA. He is enlisted for 8 yrs. I believe it will be 4 yrs active & 4 yrs inactive. He goes onto training in San Antonio pending graduation from BC. We are praying he transitions well :) Where did your son deploy to?
You are at the right site. Ask any question and you will get an answer. I hop you get to go to PIR(graduation). It is wonderful. We took pink hankies to wave so our sailor could find us in the bleachers, and in the crowd afterwards.Of course we had to let him know what to look for.  There are a lot of grads so it gets confusing.Take your camera and batteries. No pics are allowed outside but inside all you want. I enjoyed it. It sure is something I will never forget. Of course i was there Dec. 24,2008 and all flights were cancelled because of a snowstorm. We got home 1AM Christmas morn. That was fine we made it home. Please try to make it. He really isn't on a ship but they call it that.Keep checking here for info for meet & greets the nite before. This site got me through all the scared feelings I had. The chat also helps a lot.
Judi~do you get to spend any time with them after graduation or is it watch & go home? I'm hoping to at least get a photo of him with us.

HI Mary, Welcome! When is your son's PIR? what will his job be in the Navy? My son has been in 6 1'2 years now and is based in Hawaii. He is an LS at Pearl Harbor.

Lynda

Lynda~I don't have any info yet. He departed on the Feb 7th so I'm assuming April 8th?? He is going for MAA(master at arms) he will leave for San Antonio after this.
I just got my son's paperwork. His graduation is on April 1st. He is on ship 11 division 120..anyone else????
