Well, he got off without incident on Thurs - still having some crying spells - damn this is hard.  Are there any Moms who sent their boys out from Albany on Oct 3 ?  The 3 guys that left with my son all got a Mama hug as they waited in line. 2 were brothers - one cried and said thank you so nicely - broke my heart.  It's going to be a LONG 8 weeks :(

Thanks!! I will pray for your sr, also. Nukes should give him a bright future!! Though I am nervous, I think hm will open up a lot of doorways for my sons future, as well.

Commendable rating! I will pray for him too! Sounds like he has many options open for him! I didn't realize there were so many jobs under that rating! Hoping for the best! :)

My sons rating is HM ( hospital corpsman). He will be heading to sanantonio for a school. There are about 40 different jobs under hm, and I believe orders are taking by what the navy needs, and then the SAILORS get to pick them by grade. Since the marines are a division of the navy, and they have no medical personnal of their own, they use the navy's. I am very concerned that my son will end up on the ground with the marines. I'm pretty sure by the end of these 5 years, my knees will be completely worn out from praying so much!!!!

Emily, I know what you mean. He is my oldest and first to leave the next too and 18. He is doing Nuke, but I'm not sure what his rate will be yet in there. I heard he gets to choose what he wants MM, EM or ET and the following week they assign him (based on his choice, ASVAB Score, Openings and where they want to put him lol). What is his rating?

Magoostersmom, I am ok. The first week or so I felt like it was a constant effort not to cry. I too felt better after I got the call and heard my son was doing ok. I miss him terribly, though. He is my oldest and first to leave the nest. We literally tried everything to get him to finish college instead of going into the military, but now that he did it, we are proud and support him 100 percent. His group is in "radio silence" now, so other than letters, I don't expect to hear from him for 3 weeks:( I'm still keeping my phone close, though, just in case his div "earns" a call.

Hi Emily, I'm doing ok... unless I see or hear anything navy, military, sensitive, kind, caring or pretty much anything brings tears to my eyes!! I'm so thankful for all of the informaiton and support on this site! and feel better after his call yesterday and am sending a ton of letters. I asked him to send me the names (with their permission) of any of his buddies he see's aren't getting mail and plan to send them letters too! You're date is coming up! I'm happy for you and am sure you can't wait! How are you holding up?
