AndreBMom: read as much as you can on this site. It really helped me when Chris left for boot camp. At that time you will join the boot camp moms of your sons division. Also make sure if you can to attend graduation in April. It is an overwelming experience and you want to see your sailor after all those weeks. Happy to answer any questions you have
Hi Sue from Baldwin, I am Sue also, I live out east much further on LI. My son leaves Sept 6, and this my second son to join. My middle son went last year on Sept 6th!! I have some experience so if you have any questions I might be able to answer, I would love to help. I remember how I felt last year at this time, but I am much more at ease this time!! Good luck to your son...

Hi Moms! I am Sue from Baldwin New York- Are there any Long Island Moms out there? So glad to join-this is all new to me! My son just joined this week and will be going to boot camp in February. Love to bond with everyone and get and give support! I am freaking out just alittle BUT he made his own choice to do this and so I must let my son go-its so hard! But I have to do it!!
Allie 1928: my son and daughter -in-law are both stationed in Norfolk. they are coming up in the begining of Aug for her baby shower. We will be going down the end of the month to help bring all the gifts. she is due in Oct so we will go again then. Have not made the trip yet but my son has been up here. Takes about 8 hours to NYC. We are in Queens
Allie1928, We usually take the Eastern route to Norfolk as we have been stopped in the DC traffic for hours. We aren't going to Williamsburg though....it wouldn't make sense if you are going that way. The C. Bay Bridge is a beautiful way to enter Va Beach and Norfolk is just a few miles away. Don't forget to go to downtown Norfolk and see the battleship and get a tour of the base. It's a fun city. The boardwalk at Va beach is wonderful too! Our son has lived there for almost 2 years....we visit whenever we can. It's a long one day trip but doable!
Hello New York Moms...our sailor is now in Norfolk, VA wondering if any of your sailors are stationed there? We hope to go down in August and spend a week ...we enjoyed having our son home when he was on leave....it was great family time:)...He looked fantastic!
To all my New York friends:
A Navy friend and mom Karen, needs help for her son Erik, a Corpsman, who needs a place to stay from July 1 through August either in Brooklyn NY or near train lines B,Q,N,R,A,C,F,2,3,4,5 in other boroughs that will stop near the school he will need to attend in Brooklyn, NYC College of Technology located on 300 Jay Street.
Erik needs a private room with a bed and a desk (if available) and his budget is 800 a month.
I have sent out invitations to a group called "Erik Needs a Room" so that if you have any info you can post on that page.
If anyone on my list knows someone in NYC, can you ask around so we can get Erik a room for July and August? I know his mama and she is a really sweet lady and her son is a responsible nice young man ;)
Thanks for anything you can do for Erik. Will send more info privately if you need it. Here is the link:
