Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

I'm going to be like you - crying for a week, at least. Hell, I cry now everytime I start talking about it. I hope it's getting easier for you.

Comment by julieb1019 on July 24, 2011 at 11:09pm: Yes the box came a week later and We got the form letter 10 days after he left. He sounds positive and strong. Now I have joined the PIR group. It was much harder than I thought that it would be and it took me a week to stop crying. i have been writing letters everyday and love to talk about him with a smile to all that ask me how he is doing. Glad to now that there are a few NY families. He was the only one from his recruiting center on 7/13.

He said that he won't be done with that for 8-9 months now and he won't actually start classes til the end of July. We have never been a Navy family so this is all new, although my son-in-law is in the Marines. I am from south of Rochester NY.
