Forgive me for being ignorant, but what does "Depers" mean?

My son left for bc on 1/5/11 and he is just about 1/2 way thru!  It was a little more than 3 weeks before we received a letter from him!  But then 2 days later he called us and we were able to speak with him for 20+ minutes!  After 3 weeks of silence, it was great to hear from him!  Then yesterday (3 days after his call) we received the 2nd letter from him! Also, he did not get mail for the 3 weeks - even tho I wrote to him about every other day!  Make sure you join Depers leaving in February (or whatever month).Hope this helps!

We're from Long Island and my son is signing his contract next week.  I'm so scared so I've come to this site for support and guidance.  There are so many abbreviations used here I'm sooooo confused.  My son will be the first to serve in our family so I know absolutely nothing but I've been researching and getting so much info I feel like I'm on overload.  I just wanted to say hello and introduce myself.
