DivontesMom,  I feel your pain.  Meeting other moms on N4M's has helped me so much.

I joined this New York group to get to know my sailors neighbors.  His shore duty is a navy recruiter in NY. (kind of backwards for this site).

He and his wife moved to Putnam Valley last week.  She is Japanese and due with their first child Dec. 24th.  They do not know anyone.  Yesterday they met her doctor at West Point.  She is high risk and I am so nervous.   She didn't understand what contractions were when I asked her at Thanksgiving.  They are so alone and just started shopping for the baby this week.

He chose New York because he would have to pay state tax if he lives in PA.  He wanted to be close to us and our family in Toronto.  He wanted Buffalo through Syracuse, but that is the Pittsburgh office and he could have ended up in PA.  Eastern NY is the Boston office.

I would love to hear from moms in his area.

Hi Kim,

This is my 2nd Sailor, I've just been feeling down once in a while due to empty nest. My boys both made the best out of their circumstances. My oldest made turkey & stuffing with some friends and my youngest was "adopted" by a family. He has already signed up to be adopted for Christmas & one of my Sea Sisters will be at my other son's base to visit her son & will be forcing him to go with her. lol  Last year he sat in his room & ate a turkey sandwich out of a vending machine & moped, despite being invited to join a few families. I was really upset last year. But more mad at him for not making the best of his situation. I feel pretty lucky that I can talk to my boys now whenever I want. It won't be that way for long as my new Sailor will be on a sub. This past year my older son has been home several times. It's just an 11 hour drive, so he's come home for several special occasions and his brother's boot camp graduation. I feel very blessed to have had this for the 1st year of being a Navy Mom. I know most aren't so lucky & definitely don't take it for granted.

JerMom I love shopping too. I love bargains even more. That's why my husband dragged me out, he knew it would get me out of my funk.

My sons PIR was December 1, 2006. This is the first Thanksgiving that he has been home since 2007 (C school in Virginia).

At boot camp, he was invited to a church group. 3 years in Japan, groups got together at the uso and had many feasts.  The married navy personal went out of their way to look after the single sailors.  3 years in San Diego he was married, but groups got together.  Last year was the navy lodge in Pensacola with his wife, but they could have found other sailors to share with.

My point is that your sailor is not alone.  He/she will be surrounded by others during the holidays.  The further from home, the more they share family.

Navy moms need each other to get through it.

DivontesMom and Amburg,  Big cyber hug.

Hi Jermom!  I live in the Capital District 20 miles west of Albany.  My son is in the Nuke program.  He is almost complete and what a ride it has been.  Fortunately for me he is doing his Prototype Training in Ballston Spa which is just 10 miles from our house, so he is living at home.  I see you are also in the Nuke Moms group.  They are a valuable resource.  I wish the best for your SR.  Welcome to the Navy family!

Hi AMBurg! Thanksgiving was kind of hard for me too. I didn't even want to go shopping on Black Friday. My husband finally dragged me out of the house at 6 pm on Friday to get some shopping in.

Hi Jermom (and hi Emily!)

I'm in Rochester. Welcome to the group. We have a Western NY Navy Moms group on FB. If you are on there, feel free to request an ad. A group of us from that group are getting together on Saturday. Emily & I will be going to the Lights of Honor at the Rochester Airport to see our Sailor's ornaments on their tree, educating people on Dogs on Deployment & then to meet the other Moms for lunch. You're welcome to join us. :-)
