My son said there was a possibility that a family member could travel on the aircraft carrier from Hawaii to California (at the end of deployment). He didn't know if this opportunity was limited to…Continue

Thanks Marianne! So it appears what I saw was correct. Any one time bonus for finishing flight school or other training (like they do for finishing nuke school)?
What is the flight pay for NFO's? I searched online. I am not sure if I found the correct link or if I am missing something, Because $1500 to 2500/yr bonus through the 1st 5 years of their commitment does not seem like much. Or is that to entice them for the $7800/yr bonus for 6+ years?
Hi everyone -
If anyone has some insight on a timeline of how long an NFO will be in Pensacola, that would be great! (Recent info would be most helpful since things are constantly changing). I am a spouse and my husband is in API currently. I am in grad school, and just trying to have a rough estimate timeline of our time here. Any info would be appreciated.
Thank You
Tiffany
Roe's idea for Christmas gifts was great; I did the same thing. Sox were also a big hit; my DS swore the shipboard laundry shrunk everything.
Marmie: If you have his APO box number, it will be the same on the ship. The Navy is very good about getting them mail & packages on deployment. When my DS was in Japan, things got to him faster on cruise than when he was on base!
Don't forget that you can take advantage of the special mailing boxes from the post office when you are using APO or FPO addresses. They have a discount rate and no weight limits. USPS will even deliver them to your home. I went through a ton of them when DS was overseas for 3 years.
For anyone thinking of Christmas gifts for their LOs: anticipating upcoming workups from the ship, last Christmas time I gave my DS a pure beech jersey knit twin extra long sheet set & pillow/mattress protectors (from BB&B). He has had several chances to make use of them (along with the memory foam mattress top that he bought). Just recently he asked where I got the sheets so he could get an additional set of sheets. "So comfy!," he said. Made this Mom's heart happy to think that at the end of a mission, her DS could be cozily tucked in for a good night's rest before the next venture out.
I hope someone can point in me in the right direction - my LO was deployed with a very short time to leave Norfolk to get his ship which was already out to sea. He gave both his finance and me his address but it seems to be missing a box number - is there a way to confirm his afloat address somewhere?
Thanks
