Welcome to everyone who has joined. We'd love to hear your stories about your NFO.
My son graduated in 2004, was winged in 2006, has been on one deployment, and was recently selected for Test Pilot School- yes they take NFO's! It's been an exciting and sometimes emotional few years.
Please tell us a little about yourself and your NFO. If you have questions about training, deployment, or anything else, please ask. There will be several members with experience to help out the newbies.

Prof M...glad to hear you got the same info on June. I was beginning to wonder if I dreamed that...lol! Shark chumming...hmm..didn't hear about that, guess I'll have to ask later. James doesn't have a stash job, just trying to keep busy and work out a lot.

Have any plans to visit soon? James' brother will be going down as soon as he has his football coaching schedule worked out for the summer.

Our daughter winged as an NFO last Friday in Jacksonville. The ceremony was a very nice balance between the formal and informal. The event started with a light reception in the squadron commander's conference room and office. The ceremony followed. It was a mix of short speeches and presentations in the squadron auditorium. Her wings were presented to her by Rear Admiral William Moran, commander of the entire Patrol and Reconaissance community. She chose to have her pinning by her mother and father. There was as much time as necessary for pictures during the actual pinning and then after the ceremony. A P3 Orion was available for tours after the ceremony.

As to gifts, we gave her gold wings that she liked. We also had a flag flown over the US Capitol in her honor and she received a nice commendation from a Congressman that we have known for years. Our connection expedited the process, so if you are not so fortunate to have such a friend and want to do that it will take 4-6 weeks. She thought that was very cool. Finally, we made a commemorative letterhead that we circulated to friends and family and collected many best wishes and memories that we then put in a scrapbook. She also really appreciated that.

The party that they threw that evening is best left to your imagination. It is sufficient to say that the label "drunken sailor" is a well-earned description!

Overall, our hearts were swollen with pride the entire day. It was a memory to cherish.

Have been painting a room and not looking at the site for a while. Lou, I live in Kansas City - anyone close by? Glad that no-one got caught in all that flooding - snow was bad enough! My son's room-mate is doing OHARP, but he is a pilot, so that may make a difference. He should be done with it by next week, and back in P'Cola. It sounds like there's some action going on down there - I'll have to see if I can get any info out of my son.

Yes...have seen it. Doesn't seem to be visited as often as this one.

Thanks - did you ladies know there's another NFO thread? http://www.navyformoms.com/forum/topics/moms-of-nfos?groupUrl=naval...

Yes...my son requested OHARP and was told he would get it. That did not happen. In fact, his orders were changed 3 days before graduation and he had to come directly home (he thought he was going to Pensacola first to do paperwork and such) and move to Pensacola. No OHARP. In hindsight....it was for the best. He needs to be down there living his new life....he was like a fish out of water at home...he's an officer now...he felt "set apart" from all his old friends. I miss him, but I know he is where he is supposed to be.

I have a question for you ladies! My son is at OCS now. Did any of your LO's request OHARP? I had heard that NFO's were not allowed to request it but you know how things are always changing....

James was told last week that they might class up in June...nothing confirmed yet. Trawing 6 is his unit...I'm assuming it means training wing 6. That's all the news I have for now.

Dang...we didn't get one of the first salute. Guess I will have to call them about that...that is one I really want. I love the one with cover on and hands resting on the sword also...he couldn't look any happier!

Glad they are giving them something to do. James said they may be getting stash jobs on base next week....he'd rather be doing something than nothing! Prof M...did Brandon say anything to you about classing up in late June? Are the boys both in Trawing 6?
