Welcome to everyone who has joined. We'd love to hear your stories about your NFO.
My son graduated in 2004, was winged in 2006, has been on one deployment, and was recently selected for Test Pilot School- yes they take NFO's! It's been an exciting and sometimes emotional few years.
Please tell us a little about yourself and your NFO. If you have questions about training, deployment, or anything else, please ask. There will be several members with experience to help out the newbies.

Hi Kris - My DS is an instructor at Fallon. :)  We LOVE it there, and it doesn't hurt we live within driving distance :)  Good luck to your son!  And congrats on the new baby!!!

Kris P: Glad to hear that you had the chance for a last long trip to Scotland. When does #1 Son come back to the States? I believe you said they were going to be near DC for his last assignment, right?

I hope things are going well for Mitch at Fallon. You'll have to let me know what the base is like after you go to the graduation. From what I've been able to see on the internet (and Conor's description from last year), it looks pretty grim. He's more than ready to get back from Japan, though!

I was supposed to go to Israel last month with a group of teachers, but that was cancelled due to the conflict. Now my summer is basically over - I had to go to school twice this week for a CPR class and a department chair meeting. Starting Tuesday, it's back full time. Oh, well, at least this summer we've had glorious weather!

Thanks, Shelia, and great news that your DS is back in the USA!

Happy 4th of July to all!

Sheriswick - Norfolk is really nice. My DS loved it when he was there for training on the E2s. We had a great time when we went out for his winging 3 yrs. ago. The Navy Lodge is nice and convenient to the base. Unlike Pensacola, it is a closed base, so your son has to be with you on base. There is a cute maritime museum in Virginia Beach and Old Portsmouth just across the bay has lots of restaurants and shops.

My DS is in VAW 115, Liberty Bells, and is out on the GW now. This will be his last cruise in Japan before coming home. He'll be heading to Norfolk again in January for a month or two training on the new D version of the Hawkeyes before heading out to Nevada. Is your son is the C or D version? I think only one squadron has them now, but I don't recall which one, just that it's out of Norfolk.

KrisP - I really had to laugh when I read your note about the upcoming grandsons. Won't these make 4? One more and you'll have your own family basketball team! I hope your DIL can get settled before Mitch heads to Top Gun and that the baby waits until after he graduates. Talk about close timing! I wish that we would have gone out for graduation last September , but Conor had to head back to Japan the following morning, so it didn't seem worth the airfare. I guess I'll see Fallon at some point, since he's scheduled for 2 1/2 yrs. once he finally gets to his instructor post. Sadly, I don't think that there will be a great chance of meeting that DIL I keep hoping for, but one never knows.

How great to have two of your guys back in the States! If they can't be back in the Midwest, at least they are closer. Will you go to Peru when #3 is there? My daughter and I were planning to go to Machu Piccu over winter break to celebrate turning 60 and 30 this year, but now we are waiting in hopes that the boys can go, too. It is one place that I have wanted to see for ages, and I want to do it while I'm able to hike it.

Good luck to all - you and your LOs are in my prayers.

My son is in VAW 123 Screwtops. He is stationed in Norfolk,VA. We have not been over there. It was his first tour there.

Kris P it sounds like your son was on the same tour as my son. He is also on the GW and he is with the E2's. He going on to Singapore. Then I don't know where he will go next. Hopefully he will be state side in the middle of August.

He found out today that he has been selected for NAS Oceana.  Exactly what he (and the rest of us) hoped for his FRS assignment.  :::: happy dance ::::

Congratulations, Rose! Do you know where your NFO will be going yet? What kind of plane?

I posted this on the aviation, so forgive me for redundancy. This site doesn't get as many postings. I read them on my phone, but have a hard time posting from it.

My DS finally got the official orders and will be back from Japan in December. Yay - first Christmas home in 3 years! Then it's on to Fallon, where he will be a special instructor at the Aviation warfare school. I am still confused as to what the heck that entails. He says it's a dream job, but an awful location. From what he's said during his two stints there, I have to agree that the location may be great for flying, but not as a home base. I'm just thrilled that he'll be back in the States.

Kris P: Good luck to Mitch at Top Gun next month. Will they move back before he starts?
