My daughter just graduated and originally was on IRR and has now been changed to active duty with orders to report to Norfolk in about 4 weeks.  Any advice on areas to look for an apartment, areas to avoid?  We need to move quickly.

Does she have a car? My son has been living in VA. Beach. Columbus Station Apts. She would need a car to get back and forth to the base. Very nice area. Walking distance to the Mall and a bunch of other nice places to walk and eat. 20 min from apt to base. No tunnels to go through. Check it out. Columbus Station Apts. My son is an Officer on the MV. Good Luck!

How is IL. these days. I'm from DesPlaines. Live in Fl. now.

Virginia Beach has some great areas.  We chose VA Beach for the great schools, but if she doesnt have kids then there are some good areas in Norfolk also.  But you have to be careful cause good and bad areas sometimes run right into each other.  We live in the Hilltop area in Va Beach and absolutley love it!  The drive to base is not bad usally.

Is she married? Have children? If you want to find a good apartment check out the school info for that area you can usally find a good place around the better schools.

We will definitely look at Columbus Station Apts.  I think she was looking for something closer to base, but 20 minutes is not a bad drive, and she will know other people in the VA Beach area as well.  She's have a roommate, no kids, but good schools, always mean its a better area - at least the teacher in me thinks that way...  Thanks for the help.

my son bought a house in Virginia beach. So for him to live there it must be a good area. He's not to far from the base also.
