Hi All, Is it appropriate to see my sailor son off when the WASP deploys? This is his first deployment and would love to be there to say goodbye and watch the ship leave. Flying in from Ohio and not sure if the deployment date is firm so haven't bought tickets yet. Thanks for any feedback, go NAVY!

I have gotten photos from moms who go to send offs. I have been to homecomings and those are very well attended and are an emotional event. Most times you also get to take your sailor home with you on leave time.
Thank you!!!
Hi Laurie, it is totally appropriate! My husband just deployed on Wednesday (his second) and I have been around both to see him off. There are usually a lot of family members and friends there. For both of my husband's deployments, they allowed family and friends on the ship with them until it was time to get ready to leave and then the family is usually allowed to stay on the pier to watch the ship leave. For this deployment they let us stand on the flight deck of an LHD that was on the same pier.

Good luck to your son on his first deployment and to you!
Thank you so much, very emotional time, it helps having some questions answered.
Bless you and your husband!
It's very emotional, especially the first one when you don't know what to expect! Hopefully this forum will be able to answer all of your questions and make this time a little easier for you and your son, since I'm sure he has a lot of the same questions. Thank you very much!
