The only time you can ever go on and off base without a service member or dependent to escort you is for homecoming and when they leave (and that's only if your sailor goes through the proper channels). Any other time, parents cannot go on base unless they are escorted by their sailor and his or hers spouse.

Just adding that to make sure the regulations are clear. I wasn't sure if you were referring to when they leave, homecoming, or just whenever you're in town (:

Just a question, can parents get passes to get on base or only my son's wife? We were down to see the enterprise leave and she went with us, but she was sick and wasn't feeling well, she still went with us to get us on base. But I wasn't sure if we could get our own passes?

My son's ship will be leaving shortly from Norfolk as well and I will be taking the drive down to see him off - This will be a long deployment and his first one. I pray that the deployments go as fast as the visits with them when they are home.  Anticipating a lot of tears, and they've already started....... with just the reading about the Big E, knowing I'll be next - God Bless all our Sailors and especially our families - May their Guardian Angels watch over and protect them while they are away from us.

Theresa ~ Thanks for the update.  I posted your comments on the Enterprise N4Ms page so the moms there could also see it.

I wish I could stop crying so I could get something done today.  Godspeed to all in the Enterprise strike group.

Prayers are out for those that have love ones on the Enterprise and all others that are deployed right now and they stay safe and return soon.

I know how everyone feels, my son was one that was on the long 10 1/2 month deployment, remember they love to get mail and hear from home!!

Hugs to all moms who have Sailors leaving today with the Enterprise strike group.  My son is leaving today on the Enterprise for his first deployment.  Below is a picture of my son taken yesterday, Saturday, March 10, 2012 (on the one year anniversary of his leaving for bootcamp).

Godspeed, fairwinds and following seas to all of the Sailors and Marines.
