Is there anyone that is assigned to the James T Williams fighter ship? I wonder when they will have to leave out again. I want to make sure I get up to see my grand-daughter before she leaves back out. My grandson will be graduating from boot camp in Great Lakes on March 12th, and I am going up there for that, then I have another grandson that graduates from his B School in the Coast Guards on April 14th or 16th can't remember the exact date and I want to go there too. He is in Yorktown, VA. so I am hoping I can go see him Graduate and go by Norfolk and see my grand-daughter all at the same time. Wow, I am going to be a busy grandmother. I have another grandson that will graduate from High school in June and he plans on joining the Army. Wow, It is going to take a lot of money to follow these kids... I need help! (lol)...

My daughter went to Norfolk to see my grand-daughter and took her grandson to see his mom. I know they will have a good time and enjoy each other. My grand-daughter is assigned to the James T Williams ship but is docked there in Norfolk now...she has an apartment so at least my daughter and her husband will not have hotel expense while visiting. I am so glad they got to go. I want to go in April. Hope they don't have to leave out before I can go up.

Hi Tyguymom, thanks. I am excited. I can't wait for this baby to arrive. I am not that familiar with Virginia Beach as my son lives in Chesapeake. Look up top here under discussions, Places Where We Have Stayed, that might help you out a bit with VA Beach. Remember to plan well ahead if you are going to visit in the summer. Rates go up and rooms get scarce as most people are headed to the beach. My husband did look into house rentals for us, for when the baby arrives. Rates now are off season, so we can get a really good deal. Good luck!

Hi Tyguymom, my son is on the BIG E. He has been there since April of 09. There is also an Enterprise group you should join. We're going to visit my son & DIL this coming weekend. They are expecting their first child (my firsr grandchild) next month.

Cindy22, Naval Station Norfolk's Fleet & Family Support Center offers a class "Car Buying Strategies" (next one 2/24) as well as individual financial counseling; her ship's duty driver can take here there, too. The # is 757-444-2120, open 8 am - 4:30 pm. If she has an account with USAA (only for service members & dependents) she can get a very good rate on car insurance.
