What carrier is he assigned to JM?
Comment by Melissa (Tucson) on April 14, 2009 at 4:45pm
Usually when the carrier returns to home port, the Sailors on the carrier go to the barricks and the air wing and all the supporting Sailors go to Oceana. I'm not sure if that's the same set up in San Diego.

A DDG is a guided missile destroyer. Just like the Bush is a CVN, nuke carrier. There are also cruisers, frigates, subs, landing docks (LTH, LTD, LSD)....etc.

A carrier group is a group of different types of ships that deploy together. They will usually have 1 carrier (with an air wing attached), several destroyers, several frigates, and a sub or two.

A strike group is another group of ships that deploy together and usually have LTD (with attached Marine units), several destroyers, cruisers, frigates and subs.

Navy Rescues Captain of Ship

He had been held for five days in a lifeboat in waters off the Horn of Africa after pirates raided his aid ship, the Maersk Alabama.

The official said three of the pirates holding him were killed in the operation.

The fourth is now in US custody.

Mr Phillips is uninjured and is now on a US Navy ship.

Hi Karen: My son is on the Ramage in Norfolk. And my niece was on the Churchill before she left the Navy. Have you tried the search button up in the far right hand corner? Just type in "USS Churchill" and all the discussions regarding the Churchhill will come up. Holler if you need some help!
