Highly recommend The Myrtles at Olde Towne in Portsmouth (the collection of three story red brick buildings, not the "sister" high-rise across the street), right next to Naval Medical Center Portsmouth at the corner of Effingham and Crawford Parkway.  Safe, well managed, great amenities, and you can walk to the ferry that goes to Norfolk's Waterside (McArthur Mall etc) too.  http://www.myrtles-apts.com

Hi everyone! Anyone know the best way to find an apartment in a safe location either close to base or Portsmouth? My son & his roommate want to move out of the barracks, but, I personally, would rather them stay where they are, since it's safer & cloae to.the shop wherw they work. My sailor says he may be going to C school in October in Portsmouth. If that's the case, I would prefer him stay put where he is until then, so he can move close to school & avoid the tunnel & traffic each day. Any suggestions?

Tracy, they can join this group on Facebook:  "Buy, Sell & Trade of Norfolk, Chesapeake, Virginia Beach &....  Of course there's Craigslist too.  If they're up for it, there's also an Ikea in Woodbridge Virginia, about a 2.5 hr drive north; my son pretty much furnished his first apartment in Portsmouth there - brought it all back and assembled it.

Hi all - Happy Monday!  Cute one Marcy.  I was lucky, my sailor sent flowers on Saturday and I got a call on Sunday (this was my 3rd Mother's Day without my Sailor).  Then later in the day we were at my mom's & he called & spoke with her - MADE HER DAY!

Tracy - I don't know of anything but I'll keep my ears open & if I hear anything I'll pass it on.

I hope everyone had a good weekend.....

Does anyone know of a place or facebook page for buying/selling furniture or household goods from military who may be moving? Today my son moved into the place he rented for him and his soon to be wife, and considering he has lived on the ship for over a year and a half, that consists of his clothes, uniforms and computer. lol. We face timed earlier so he could show it to me, and it's quite empty. Since everything they buy or get as wedding gifts has to be hauled out there, they were wanting to just buy their bigger furniture when they get there next week after the wedding.

Happy Mother's Day weekend!  Know that if your sailor isn't able to call (needs of the Navy, remember!), he or she is holding you dear in their heart.

Thanks TJCsMom!  I hope the phone banks aren't too crowded & you get a phone call ;-)

Have a great weekend everyone!

Hi Bobbie! My son is in Norfolk and it has decreased my separation with him from 12 hours (in GL) to 8 hours! Praise Jesus for Southwest!

Happy Mother's Day, B'sNukeMoM!! Hope you have a wonderful weekend and get phone calls from your Sailor! My Sailor is back out with the TR since leaving Bahrain. I may get a ship-to-shore call, but it depends on how crowded the phone banks are onboard. I did get to talk to him this week and we've had several good facebook-message exchanges, so I can't complain. :) Thank you for checking in with us all each day. I may not respond often enough, but I do appreciate your posts. <3
