Greetings to all.  My son's PIR is scheduled for 4/02/10.  I was wondering if I will have the opportunity to meet other proud recruit parents from the raleigh, NC area.

Congrats NavyBlueHeart!!! My son graduated from GL on Jan 22nd and is now in San Antonio for his A School. I live in the Raleigh area so it's nice to hear from another Mom in this area! I know April seems a long way off but hang in there! Hopefully you've joined a group for others in your son's Division. That helped me get through my son's boot camp more than anything!

What will your son be doing after Boot Camp? I would love to stay in touch with you since we live in the same area. I've had trouble finding others on the NC Group in the RTP Area. I would love for us to start meeting and getting to know each other.

Again, congrats on your son...when you write to him tell him that it gets better around week 4...that comes straght from a recent BC graduate. Your son will do just fine but he needs lots of letters!!! I wrote my son everyday and he was thankful for every letter I wrote. He also had a large support group from Church that wrote him letters. He told me times that the only thing that got him through Boot Camp were the letters. I also sent him pictures every couple of weeks to keep him updated. He LOVED getting pics!
NavyBlueHeart and Grasshopper,
I am also in Raleigh. If you'd like to get together sometime let me know and we can arrange to have lunch together somewhere. I'm right outside Cary.
Hello Grasshopper and Anna. OMG! Glad to know that you both are in the RTP area! I’d love to meet you both one day for lunch or dinner. We live in Clayton. 32 days ~ I can hardly wait! My son’s A school is in GL as well. He is in the MR program.

I’m about to write. I’ll be sure to let him know that it will get better around week 4 (tomorrow 3/2 makes his 4th week).

Grasshopper & Anna - did you fly or drive to GL for the PIR grad.? I’d prefer to fly (2.5 hours) - but 2 of my family members despise the idea flying…so I’m most likely facing the 14 hour ride :( That give me so much time to think about how I can’t wait to see him :)
NavyBlue,
When I went to my daughter's PIR in 08, we were living in northeast OH and we drove. I will tell you driving around Chicago can be crazy but it is doable!!! Once you get up to GL tho' it's much better. If you do fly you will definately have to rent a car to get around tho. When you get close to PIR and start looking into hotels check to see if the hotel has a shuttle to GL for PIR. We did that and it was so good not to have to worry about waiting in the line to get our car inspected and get on base. We just got dropped off and walked in. It's not a far walk at all from the main gate to the drill hall. Just a thought!!!
So let's pick a place and date to get together!!!
Hello Anna - I hope that all is well. I just checked my family calendar. How about 3/13 or 3/27? Not so great a picking a place. We moved here from Asheville, NC and I don't know the area like I should ~ but I'm flexible.
NavyBlue,
Do you work during the week? I'm usually better doing things during the week but if that won't work for you I can see about the 27th. The 13th I know won't work. What part of Raleigh are you in? That will help us plan a place.
Grasshopper - will you be available to meet also??
Yes - I work during the week. We just finished basketball season (rec. div) ~ so I have a few open week ends open for now. 3/20 is booked... attending WCU open house. We live in Clayton.
Ok - Saturday it is then!! I'm not available the 13th or the 20th so the 27th sounds good. There are a couple places in Garner we could meet.
Hi Ladies!!

I would love to meet with you both but my Son is finishing "A" School and will be home for leave arriving around 20th and staying for about 2 weeks. I prefer to keep my calendar open for him...he's been gone since last November. He was gone for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year! We have a lot of Holidays to make-up for! LOL

I'm in Durham so not too far from with of you.

Can't wait to meet you both!
Cathy
Grasshoper, (and NavyBlue)
I do understand not wanting to go anywhere that does not involve the sailor while he is home on leave!!! We could wait until the second week of April if that is ok with you NavyBlue. If not, you and I can go ahead and have lunch and then get together again in April with Grasshopper. I am really flexible so let me know what you want to do!!!
Can't wait to meet up with both of you.
Hello Anna and Grasshoper. The second week of April works for me.... I'll be back from GL and will have EVEN more to talk about :) Thank you both for the travel details. Grasshoper, did you guys drive the 14 hours straight or did you did a overnight pit stop?
That's fantastic NavyBlue - we'll get together after your PIR and Grasshopper's visit with her son and both of you will have some wonderful sailor stories to share!!!!!
