Hey Bea, I can relate to the moping around...at least you don't have the "kid in a box" of dirty clothes to look forward to... LOL!

Hello everyone, I put together a guideline/instructions for hosting meet & greets. The file is in MSWord format. Cindy is reviewing the document. A number of you have organized a MG before, so the guideline is redundant for you; however, we have a number of newbies and I thought it would be good to have the guidelines/instructions written down for future use. I have also asked Cindy (who is really good with the computer) to assist the first-timers in adding the event and provide gentle reminders to post comments to the group. Questions/changes regarding the calendar/scheduling should be forward to me; otherwise, Cindy will be our point person. Feel free to be creative. Here is to a great year of Meet & Greets.

Please feel free to add to our discussion forum - I would prefer to reserve this area for discussions and limit all subsequent comments/replies to ideas, suggestions, tips, useful information for all to share. PLEASE keep this area uncluttered. If necessary, I will consolidate comments.

I will continue to search out new members and post comments on their pages inviting them to join our group (because I think we are soooo wonderful).

My sailor left two days ago and I am behaving like a new boot camp mother - moping around the house in my bathrobe.

Hi Vicky,

Just noticed your daughter is AECF and my son is SECF. One on the water, the other under the water! Have a great time with your daughter and grandson -- hope your holidays are wonderful! (And hope you're feeling better!)

Good morning No. Cal. Moms,
Welcome simfam07 and Sue953. I live in the foothills (Sutter Creek) east of the Stockton/Sacramento area. I don't know anything about recruiters, as I never talked to Chrissy's recruiters, she just told me what they said. She also told me that the Nuke program is the hardest, so if your son qualifies for that he must be pretty smart! Chrissy is the AECF-FC program. She says it is the 3rd hardest. So far she is doing OK, passed her ATT classes, now on hold again! GL A-school has Winter stand down starting Friday at 6 am, so she will be flying home Friday. Only three more days! Yay!

Hi Sue, wecome to the group!

NorCalMom - I believe they're given the choice of any opening that their test score qualifies them for. So as long as their score meets the requirents of the job, it's an option. Sounds like your son will have lots of choices, just needs to wait for an opening. One thing to consider is that sometimes there's an opening that becomes available when someone else falls through. The recruiter may call to say there's an opening for an "whatever" on a certain date. You may need to talk with your son to give the recruiter the go-ahead on certain positions. If the recruiter has to wait for a call back, it's usually too late.

That's probably more than you're ready to consider right now, I'd just have some good contact with the recruiter and maybe you or dad go with your son to talk with the recruiter so you can help him as options become available. My son signed-up on his own, but the day we took him to ship off for BC there was a girl with her dad talking with a recruiter in the office, and it looked like it was a great approach for dad to help his daughter get her career off to a good start. Just a though!

Good morning No. Cal. Moms,
My grandson's father (Chrissy's ex) called yesterday and said I could have Aidan Wednesday night. Then Friday we go to the airport!!!!
From what I have heard; there is now a long waiting list becasue of the bad economy so many people can't get civilian jobs, more are applying to the military. My Chrissy first went to the Air Force and was told a long wait for a medical job, then she went to the Navy they said same thing about medical jobs but added that if she wanted a technical job she could leave in three weeks so she took that and left after Memorial day. Is your son flexible about what kind of job he wants? ~ Vicky aka Chrissy's Mom

I remember telling people that I would know my baby's scent from any other baby. Never tested it but to this day I believe it....

Welcome "NorCalMom"! My son signed-up on July 4, 2008 and just started Boot Camp on August 25, 2009 - so I know what the waiting is like. He graduated boot camp and is now in CT at Submarine School. I know how frustrating it can be to have to wait, but believe me you'll look back someday and be amazed how quickly the time flew. Please tell your son to make the most of the dep program. He'll have opportunity to develop himself physically, to learn much of what is required in boot camp, and could earn rank increases to go in with some advantages. The more he does now, the better his experience will be as a job opens up and he begins his career. Good luck, I look forward to hearing from you in the future!
