OUR FIRST EAST BAY MEET & GREET.
Date: December 12, 2009 Saturday
Organizer: Jaye Lynn
Place: Jaye Lynn's home in Livermore.
Will update with specific time soon and will get it on the EVENTS calendar. Check there for details later this week. Will include on Summary of Events discussion above as well.
Still to be finalized on time and place - a Meet & Greet in Sacramento that Cindy has kindly offered to host at her home. Cindy is in the Sacramento area and had offered Dec 6 as a possible date.
Next year, with a little planning we'll try to get the events scheduled more evenly. We are very lucky to have many people stepping up graciously for next year.
So far we have the following host/organizers on board for next year:
Lori, Cindy Lou, Kathy Reite, Sharon and Bea.

On Thanksgiving Dinner for Sailor:
Lemoore is far away - 3 hour drive at least - the moms are so grateful that we are thinking of their sons/daughters. There are three USO in our area: Travis AFB, San Francisco and San Jose. Keep in mind military personnel at the USOs normally do not have transportation. For us, picking someone at San Jose would not be a problem since we are having Thanksgiving at San Jose Country Club, so it would be on the way. Maureen - going to SFO or Travis would be a long drive. Maybe someone is East Bay or Sac.
Welcome to our two young, new members - I am starting to feel like an old lady.

Meilin, I also graduated from Gunn high School but long before you. My parents are still in P.A. so I did hear about the suicides. It is so tragic. My son is in BC and will graduate on Dec. 4th. We are looking forward to his graduation.

Good luck to you,
Terri

I am sure my son would love to see some of the good spots. The dreadful intersection!

My husband is American. His father was an executive for Southern Pacific. He was born in the US but spent the first 5 years of his life in Mexico. Also took many classes in Spanish in high school and college. His ancestors on his father's side were German Palatines who came to the US in early 1600s. I am a first generation wetback, I mean immigrant. When your bf comes back, we'll go to the new dim sum place in downtown MV. Did you go to high school in PA?

meilinn, you have come to the right place. 25 of us got together last month for lunch at my house. I was borne in China, came to the US when I was 8. My Chinese is good enough to order dim sum. My husband is German, English and Irish - his Spanish is perfect. You should also join the Hawaii Group. Scroll back to the comments around Oct 25 to see photos. My son is 25 and a nuke guy on a submarine.

Hello "meilinnnfreddyyy" and welcome to the group! My son was in boot camp from August thru October and just graduated and began his experience with A school. I live in the Elk Grove/South Sacramento area, and believe there are ladies not too far from Davis in the group, there are also a number of members in areas around Palo Alto. We're looking forward to some events over the holidays, so hopefully that will give you a chance to join us and get to meet others face-to-face. Please extend a hello to your boyfriend's mother and let us know if there's anything we can do to support either of you. Happy Veterans Day to you too, as you support your soon-to-be sailor!

Hi everyone, it's been a while since I've posted and I still need to catch up, but I wanted to check and see if we have any get togethers planned. I don't want to miss another one :( I can't believe it's Nov. 10 already!! Be back later this evening...

Hi LoriLAB,
I think that's it. You'll all need to show ID and be matched-up to the recruit you're listed as a guest of. So, for your son-in-law, he'd need the name of the other recruit. From going through the process, it doesn't seem like it would be too difficult. Also, I had a problem with my son being on hold after graduation and was VERY impressed with the help available through the public affairs office. I'm not sure if you've called there, but they might be able to help confirm what you've heard from your son. Good luck (and I hope you're collecting your frequent flyer miles)!
