I hope everyone is doing well and getting ready for Thanksgiving. If I were home I would gladley host a sailor. However, we are hoping to have a new grandson that day. The reason why I cannot leave town to go see my son. My daughter has had a tough pregnancy, almost done though. I can't host someone when I am not sure what is happening that day. I will be happy to host a sailor for Chrismas though, if that is an option. We will be in Coos Bay Oregon. So If anyone has access to that list just let me know! Naomi, I hope your son's shoulder is better. Oral surgery.. hmm, not pleasant . Give him my best and hope he gets better soon. As for my son Mike. He says he is getting a bit more sleep. He managed 4 hours the other night. Whoohoo! Everyone take care.

Hi Terri,
Looks like we're on the same path, my son's just a month or so ahead of yours. I can tell you my son enjoyed boot camp (he says that now that it's done) and is really looking forward to Sub School. The hardest thing for me is that he's about as far away as he possibly could be. It is great that he has his cell phone so we're able to talk and text regularly.

My son graduates from PIR Dec. 4th and then off to sub school. Would like to meet some of you on Dec. 12th. I can do Livermore or S.Sac. I know that I will have lots of questions at that point. Reading these posts, I didn't know that A school was going to be so difficult.

I can do So Sac on Dec 6 also if Dixon is too out of the way. Two on the same weekend are too much, but I think consecutive weekends are okay that way if someone can't attend one they can attend the other.

JayeLynn from Livermore (North Calif - East Bay Meet & Greet) had tentatively penciled in Dec 12, Sat for lunch/brunch at her home. Her son's PIR was Nov 6. Let's wait a few days for her to get back to confirm. I would suggest Dec 6 for Sac, in case people want to go both? Vickie, Jody, Susan & Ginger - you have been here longer than most of us. Your thoughts? Consecutive weekends too much? Two on same weekend?
Ginger, you aren't social types? Hmmm. But all dog lovers are social animals. :))

Hi Lisa - I'm thinking of and saying prayers for you and your daughter!

Hello everyone, I talked with my husband and we'd be happy to host a meet and greet. We should have plenty of room for everyone, and I hope many would be able to make it. We're in the south end of Sacramento, just off hwy 99. We're pretty central to the valley and just five minutes off the highway. I saw Vickie's offer to host and would be happy to go there, if that works better for the group. If this place does work...I was thinking a Sunday early afternoon. How's the 6th or the 13th of December work for everyone? My schedule is very open, and I could go with either Saturday or Sunday.

My sailor is staying in Groton, CT for Sub School these holidays, so it would be great to host everyone and enjoy a houseful of friends and festivities.

A SAP is a typical military mom (or dad) who will do just about anything to see her son/daughter even for the briefest of moments. A SAP will hear the phone ring, jump out of bed in the middle of the night because she could feel it in her bones that her son is calling (and the phone has not rang yet). A SAP puts her son's smelly clothes up to her nose and think what glorious fragrance, just like when they were babies. A SAP will spent hours going over hundreds of photos, searching for a familiar earlobe, smile - will even pretend that she has found her beloved boy (whether it's true or not) because it makes her feel better. You get the idea. There are no lists (that I know of, perhaps there are ones that no body knows about). Unfortunately, you'll just have to scroll back to see what you have missed - it's the only avenue we have for communicating - you may find more than a few interesting comments.

Hi Nor. Cal. Moms,
If I am free on the date, I would attend a Sacramento M&G, as it is only an hour drive from my home. Restaurants are fine, but I also like the idea of having it in a home, because it is more private, friendly and relaxing. Potlucks are great! I however would not host one because my home is not central located, don't think many people would come. But anything in the Sacramento/Stockton area is good for me. Navy Hugss ~ Vicky

MEET AND GREET:
I did a brief review of Meet and Greets listed under N4M EVENTS, other than M&G associated with PIR or other graduations. Here is a summary.

The majority of the M&Gs were held at restaurants (Olive Garden, Chilis, Houlihans, Applebees, etc.). A small number (1/4 of the number of restaurants) were held at bakery, coffee shops. About the same number were at private homes. A few were held at libraries, public parks. There are no set rules from N4Ms since it is strictly voluntary. It's really what the organizer feels comfortable with and resources available. Most of the ones held at homes and public parks were pot luck with the hostess providing place, utensils, drinks. Food range from snacks to lunch. Dinners were held mostly at restaurants.

Northern California Navy Moms Group - that is US. WHAT A FABULOUS BUNCH!
The group was started by Heloisa in June 2008. It would be great to meet the person who was instrumental in getting this group going and to thank her personally.
As a group, it appears that we have had nine M&Gs:
August 2008
April 2009
?? at Ginger's (I've been told)
June 2009 at Jody G's
Sept 2009 San Franicso (Barbara organizied)
Sept 2009 Sacramento (Alaina organized)
Sept 2009 Nevada City (Susan organized)
Sept 2009 San Jose (Leeanna organized)
Oct 2009 (Bea organized)

Note: The Chico group met regularly for coffee. Don't know if they are still meeting.

I am a proponent of M&Gs at a home - quieter setting, more time to get acquainted, more comfortable. The organizer can decide whether to have coffee/dessert, brunch, lunch or ?? I would suggest that we don't have two on the same date in different locations. Doing something for a charity is always worthwhile. If we have a special guest, Jody is our protocol expert.

Other thoughts and suggestions ???? We'll pool our ideas together and consolidate them into a Meet & Greet tips and guidelines.
