Hi All,
There are no shortage of potential recruits these days. There are kids and their parents who are distraught because they go to the recruiter's office and it's closed. They call and call, leave messages and don't get a call back any time soon. Reversal of fortunes. Some parents are just desperate to find out how to improve their son's/daughter's chances of getting in. On another site, one of the moms wrote:
"The seniors at the Academy have recieved their Service Selections for after graduation in May. Aviation, SWO, Subs, etc... there is a quota for each designation. They haven't met the quota for Subs, they never do. There are 25 slots not filled." She thought 10 of the 25 slots would be open to women.
On a bright note, we just got an email from our son - first communication in about 8 weeks. I am checking out condos for him to rent in Honolulu.

Hi Bea, I don't think we need any recruiters there. I am looking forward to meeting Moms! ~ Vicky

QUICK QUESTION.
Commander Nafarrete has a conflict with a family event. He'll never be forgiven if he comes to our Meet and Greet instead (He probably forgot to tell his wife). He offered to get another recruiter to come in his place. We have Josh McDaniel (a recruiter) coming already. Do we need more?
I would like to contact an nuke officer I know who enlisted at 18, got his college degree during his service, got commissioned and is currently at Stanford getting his MBA and see if he can join us.
I was going to have a short question and answer period (30 minutes) but we can bypass that and start with lunch and just let Josh mingle with everyone.
My goal on this Sunday is for us to relax, get to know one and another, eat lots of food and share photos.
xxoo to all. Bea

Hey Cindy, I'm so glad that you're having a wonderful weekend with your son! It's been only 3 weeks for me but the memory of PIR is in my mind every Friday! Enjoy the time with your son, it'll be time to head home soon enough! God bless you and congratulations to your new sailor. We're all proud of him also!

Yes Cindy that is awesome. My heart was pounding so hard I thought I would have a heart attack but I didn't! Then I got confused when they announced the division numbers and I couldn't find her because I was looking in Div, 293 not 292. Then they announced the divisions again and I found her. During the ceronomy one of the other women in her division fainted, which really scared me, her mother was sitting next to me. Then I started praying that she wouldn't faint and she didn't. My grandson was so good, he sat in my lap the whole time and feel asleep. We woke him up after the ceremony, when he saw her his whole face light up and he jumped into her arms, Awesome reunion! Have fun w/ your sailor. Hope to see u next week, Navy Huggs ~ Vicky

We went to the Chipotle Mexican Grill in Mountain View. We were almost finished with dinner when we spotted a young women in Army fatigues waiting in line. I went up to the cashier and slipped him $20 to pay for her dinner (we didn't want to give it to her directly, thinking it would be awkward). When she got to cashier, the family just ahead of her beat me to the punch and paid for the entire take-out order (looked like 3-4 items). The woman who paid works for the local school district. She is particularly fond of service men/women because there are a number of families with fathers who are on their 3rd and 4th tours to Iraq or Afghanistan. Just wanted you all to know.

Hi Ladies,
I'm writing from Chicago, we just finished some shopping at the NEX and droped off our sailor on base. It was an INCREDIBLE day and such a memorable experience. I think that for me the most amazing experience was when the doors rolled up and the divisions started marching in. The hall filled and they all just look so spectacularly sharp in their "dress blues" (for us). We got a few pictures and had a wonderful day around town. Our son has watch duty tomorrow until 2 so we'll be chillin' at the hotel, then spend the afternoon/early evening with him. And on Sunday...we're off to Chicago!

As for our trip, our travel was thru Northwest and we flew round trip between Sacramento and Milwaukee for about $180 each round trip. I do highly advise you to book early. And, book directly with the airline and the hotel. This gives you the best opportunity for changes, just in case they're needed.

I'm hoping our plans for the month workout to be able to attend the meet and greet next weekend, and will RSVP when we're back in town. Thanks everyone for your well wishes and great advice -- good night from Great Lakes!

Terri, the Navy recommends that you purchase "refundable" tickets, but I found a pretty good deal when we went to graduation from Priceline 2 weeks prior to graduation date. We live close to Sacramento and flew into Milwaukee WI, for $228 per person round trip. Rented a car through priceline also. For us flying into Milwaukee was about $150 less then flying into Chicago and the distance from Milwaukee to Great Lakes was about the same from Chicago to Great Lakes. So take a look on priceline, you can try both SFO and San Jose and see what you can find. Good luck!

Hello Everyone, as a new mom to navy life I need to tell you that I enjoy reading all of your comments. They have been so helpful. My son has been in Boot Camp for eleven days now. I have received his clothes, a letter, and two phone calls.

I have questions about graduation if someone can help me out. He is suppose to graduate Dec. 4th. Is it too soon to make plane reservations? Has any one found some good deals? I can leave out of S.F. or San Jose. To get the cancellation insurance is outrageous!

Thanks for your help,
Terri
