Lynn.....Yes your right it means so much to the grandparents to see these children in uniform.

A few years ago my mother in law was ill and we where told if we want to see her one last time that we should all come to the hospital. Our son was on Thanksgiving break from the academy and made his way to this grandmother. He arrived in his full winter uniform ( they make such a handsome site in uniform). He went straight to the hospital when he arrived the nurses made such a fuss over him. They where bringing him a chair, offering to get him a drink and meal. They just made over him like he was a movie star. His grandmother was so thrilled to see him.

When he went back the next day in civilian clothes he was treated like a fly on the wall. He said the nurses didn't even talk to him.

What a difference a uniform makes!

Grandma did recover from that epiosde. We did loss her a few years later.

Cindy Lou, how long will you son be home? Looking forward to seeing pics.
Alaina, my son was the same way at his graduation. What is it with these guys and having their photos taken? They should know that we anxiously anticipate every single photo op. One day, all this will be a distant memory and we will really cherish being able to look at the photos. So, Cindy do us proud.

RE: October 25.
TEN DAYS TO GO! :)
For those who are coming, please RSVP. Click HERE to go directly to EVENTS. I am looking forward to seeing everyone (moms, dads, recruits, sailors-home-on-leave, wives, gfs, MILs, FILs).

I get such a kick out of reading about the PIRs (going to and coming from).
I feel like I am there with all of you. Lynn, I know how your father IL feels. That uniform is so impressive on our guys/gals.
We have not seen our son since May. We last spoke with him in early Sept.

Hello everyone!
I'm happy to post that we got "the" call and have a sailor in our family! We're leaving tomorrow morning for PIR and are so excited for the weekend! Thanks again to everyone for your tips, advice and friendship -- this website has been an incredible support through boot camp! My GPS is ready to go, now I had just better pack some suitcases. Next time I see you all will be in my new "Navy Mom" wear!

Wow, I really missed a lot the past few days! About Fleet Week next year, I've heard that a N4M's member goes to meet incoming Navy ships and gives "free Navy Mom hugs." It sounds like you had a wonderful day Jody G and Rachel. Thanks for the link Paula, I'll be checking that out. Cindy, is your PIR this weekend? Have you gotten the "I'm a sailor" call yet? Has everyone dried out yet? Wow, what a storm!!!

Oh, and I changed my profile picture in case someone was thinking "who is that?"

Patricia....My 81 years old father is quite the trooper. He kept up with everyone. Walked all of Fisherman's wharf along with touring the ship. He loved talking with all the sailors and telling them that he had been a sailor 60 + years ago. It was great!

Vernita....Yes, I took a couple of pictures. I will bring them to Bea's, for security reason I will not post them on line.

Looking forward to seeing all of you at Bea's
