NavyforMoms is the best. Whether my husband is walking around town during his lunch hour, shopping for groceries or depositing peanuts at the bank, if he encounters a young man or lady in the same age group as one of our sons, he always inquires what he/she is doing, did he/she also graduated from the same local high school. Over the last year, he had encountered this very nice young man at the bank who informed my husband that he knew our sailor's younger brother. A few months later, my husband didn't see him any longer and was told that this young man had joined the Navy. When I did the search for members in Santa Clara County, I found three in my city. One of them with a son waiting to go to BC. It's the same young man!

Peg, follow the instructions below to search for a your son's PIR group. It there is not a group, you can start one.

On above menu bar, click on GROUPS. A page will come up with in large print Features Groups and just above this in small print All Groups and My Groups.
Input PIR & date in the blank space and hit search. If there is a group, it'll show up. You can take it from there. You can use this method to find other groups of your interest (such as submarine, nuke, emptynester, OCS, Rescue A Sailor, Hawaii, USS Arizona, etc.)

On the lower right hand side, below "Navy Speak" there is a Events section. Tab over to Sept and click on the 13th. Our next Meet and Greet hosted by Susan Kopp in Nevada will be displayed. Info, sign up and driving directions.

The next Meet & Greet will be in Oct (Los Altos) - haven't finalize a date yet. But don't be shy, if you are in the neighborhood and want to have coffee, lunch or golf - just holler.

Hi all,
I just received the invite for the northern Ca navy moms and have read some comments on a meet and greet. Is this for one of the PIRs or is this a local gathering in CA?

I could not believe that we had so few sailors from the Santa Clara/San Mateo area. I did a search in the MEMBERS for "San Jose" and a list pops up with 26 names. I guess some of the new moms were simply not aware of the Northern California Navy Moms Group. Have no fear, I sent out invites to all 26 ladies in San Jose, plus a few other in San Mateo.
If you encounter a local mom/dad/wive/fiancee/gf, you can cut and paste the instructions below to tell them about our group and how to join. Or let me know and I will take care of it.

Welcome to Leeanna, Venita, Barbara, NaomiSims, Katherine, Lisa. :))

If you are going to do an event, post the info under EVENTS. Ladies, please check this periodically.

Instructions:
On above menu bar, click on GROUPS. A page will come up with in large print Features Groups and just above this in small print All Groups and My Groups.
Input Northern California Navy Moms in the blank space and hit search. The group will show up. You can take it from there. You can use this method to find other groups of your interest (such as submarine, nuke, PIR, OCS, etc.)

To see if you have any request to be a Friend or to whom you have sent a request:
If you click on MY PAGE on the menu bar, then "My Friends" in your own page, you'll find three headings, "My Friends", "Requested Received" and "Request Sent". Many members have their PAGE set to private - to view their pages, you have to be a "Friend".

Thank you Bea and Donna for helping me out. Gads, the more I try the less I seem to retain - must be a too busy thing. Notice that I didn't say age! We just completed our family visit with our sailor and his family. The memorial service is tomorrow for our dil's mother. We were not invited, so we will hold them close in our prayers. Now, on to rearranging the house yet again, cleaning up, and figuring out what they may have left behind. This was the first time in six years that our sailor had been home. Wow, I had almost forgotten what it was like to cook for a family. The memories came back quickly. Now I know why some are so very lucky to be home full time. I am glad that our dil can do that for their family.. I am hoping and praying that you can all make it on the 13th. I know that it is a long drive from some because our state is so large. But, we will do all that we can to welcome you, and have a great time. Our back yard can fit more than 40 folks - so, please come. Car pooling is a great way to be able to share and get to know eachother also. We do that a lot for my church lady work. I promise, come here - and I'll come to you there! My angel blessings~s

There is a Meet and Greet in Nevada City. Go to Events on the right right, tab over to Sept. It's schedule for Sept 13. You will find lots of info.

I am scheduled to host a Meet and Greet in Oct or ? depending on ?
I live in Santa Clara County - Los Altos. So, ladies within drive-able distance, no excuse for not coming. Please look for announcements. I was planning on having it at my home but if other moms would prefer a restaurant, I am OK with that. Three more days and I will have my high maintenance younger son out of the house and on his way to Univ of OK. I am exhausted. He is nothing like my sailor. My home won't be perfect but it probably won't be until it's time to retire and sell it.

Wow, FW, I went to high school in Oroville and will be there Monday for a meeting. I hope you are able to go to the graduation, it's such an exciting and wonderful day. I still get goosebumps thinking about it a year later!
