My son ships to RTC on November 23. He will be a CTI so will go on to the Defense Language Institute in Monterrey for a year or two, depending on the language he gets assigned to learn.

He will spend 3 major holidays in boot, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's, so we will have a swift introduction into Navy life.

All the families of the November shippers will have empty places at holiday tables. My hope and prayer is that our children will do good work, make good friends, stay healthy, and finish boot camp with a sense of pride in their growth and accomplishments.

Amen to everything you said in your post! Is your family going to have an early Thanksgiving for your son? My nephew by title and son by heart is going to be at BC during Thanksgiving and Christmas. I don't know about New Years yet. I'll say a special prayer for you all on November 23. Enjoy your time together before he goes, it will fly by faster than you know.
Laurie...from your lips to God's ears....that was stated so beautifully. The empty chairs at the holiday tables just might be more difficult for us, as our recruits will have each other. God bless you and your family, and good luck to your son.
I cry everytime I think of all the holidays she will be missing. First was Halloween, which is her favorite she dressed up every year except this. It just wasn't the same. Then she will be msiing her twin brother's 7th b-day on the 27th, they don't understand why she can't come back for their b-day. Then of course Thanksgiving & Christmas which she had made very special for her younger sister & brothers. Lots of tradions she had done w/them being 9 years older.... I don't know how I can make up for her absence then I can't bear the thought of how lonely it will be for her.. I just pray that they form a special bond this year and be each others family.
