I agree MiaB.... a lot of school....but so good! My sailor was on hold between Nuclear Power School in Goose Creek and Prototype. So, he won't know anybody from Ballston Spa. He said the plan is to do Prototype (in BS) after college. Does that make sense? We are all looking forward to February! He is so fortunate to have this opportunity! Happy New Year!
OC's receive enlisted pay and they are eligible for advancement while in school. Lee passed the E6 exam last summer. He receives BAH and BAS in addition to his base pay. Lee got moving expenses plus storage for six months.
MiaB....good questions! I have the same, although I think my son will be E4. He hasn't been to BS, NY.........going to NSI from NPS...but on leave at home now, too.
Merry Christmas! Happy Holidays to all..........no matter what you are celebrating!
Wetting down is a tradition. Where the person or people who are newly promoted have a party (drinking and appetizers) spending the increase in paycheck on those who they work with. The DH's E5 pay to O1-e pay is an increase of 1,400. Luckily, the entire commissioning class does this together but its really expensive.
When I worked at a restaurant we did Air Force wetting downs alot on the patio. Normally during Happy Hour and they severed lots of appetizers with Beer and margaritas. The last wetting down we went to in May was unlimited top shelf drinks and lots of appetizers (wings, chili, guac, salsa and chips, fries, other many apps).
Well, when I started thinking about the cost of graduation announcements, the cap and gown, plus odds and ends for this commissioning ceremony, wetting down, and the graduation party back home. It's gonna cost us a quite a bit in cash plus we'll be moving with in 2 weeks. And you always need 3k for a move even though they pay for the movers. One you get there you need some new furniture and window treatments ect. Yucky expensive month for us.
Yiks! ( I had to ask my hubby what wetting down was.....)
Something to be aware of. We just found out that the wetting down last year cost $800 per NSI grad!!! Holy camoly guess we should start saving up (that on top of a graduation party ect).
Hi Dolphin! everything is fine here - Aarons last day of finals for this term today now we are all watching ( and texting back and forth...) Montana Grizzlies playing N.Iowa football.... go Griz! :) Aaron will be home next week for 10 days.... I cant wait!
Congrats Rightthing!
Dolphin: Thank you....yes, today is the good news day...my son is accepted at NC State! Sorry I missed you and the other moms in IL......how 'bout next time?!?!?!
Thanks for the support!
I didn't go to the awards for my husband. Neither did either wife here at our NROTC unit. But was at boot camp grad. and two other events for him so this one wasn't a "big deal" to us. We didn't think we needed to spend the money.
