Our sailor seems to understand he will have off from either Dec. 15th or Dec. 22 until Jan. 2nd. Does anyone know if the airforce base close to there has transportation to our local airforce base?
Also, how long do they need to have been in A school before they can volunteer in their recruiting office to save some of their holiday? I would hate to seem him lose so much vacation time this early in his schooling. He has only had one week of A school.
Any information is greatly appreciated.
BTW--he wants to buy a car now. What experiences have any of you had (personally, in discouraging it.)

I called the recruiter. He said the instructors have the most up to date information on this, and that our sailor should check in with these instructors about the dates off. Sounds like they have a 4 day weekend. Also, Father John Kelley said that if they don't have family for T-day, that they get "adopted" for the weekend by people on campus or churches.
Drake's Mom! This is Dianne (stargazer00) from Squidoo (Navy Nukes). I've been looking for you on Navy Moms but didn't see you until just now. Hello! I hope you see this and reply.
Glad you joined our group. I'll have to see where you are from--either you were up later than me, or you are on west coast! I'll skip over to your page.
My son Aaron is in Goose Creek. I think he is planning on driving home for Christmas but not for Thanksgiving. We delivered his car to him about 1 month ago. Boy was he happy to get that car. We live in Ohio. Does anyone else come from Ohio, if they do maybe they can hitch a ride home with Aaron for Christmas if they don't have a car.
Unfortunately, I can't answer all your questions regarding travel. However, I can give some advice regarding your son buying a car. My son got a loan through the Navy Federal Credit Union. The rate is a little high, but my son doesn't have any established credit. Once approved, the credit union simply gave my son a check that he could sign over to the dealer or individual selling the car. The process was really easy! I highly recommend that your son DO NOT purchase a car from a dealer near the base as there is a probability that your son will be taken advantage of! Both of my kids are in the military, as was I, and I am well aware of what these dealers will do to get these kids financed! I hope this helps! Dana
Not only did my son buy a car, he also bought one of those Ninja motorcycles, which we were against him having while living home here on Long Island. It is out of my control now, he is 20 years old AND he is a man in the US Navy, he makes his own decisions now.
Ours got a car last week that he found on Craigslist. I hope it works as well as it looks. Only time will tell. And yes, out of my control, too, as he is no longer "our" dependent.
