A-School Class 1152T

Good Morning All,

I thought I would start a discussion group for my son's A-school Class 1152T.  The class started on Monday, Oct. 3rd. 

I am going for a visit this weekend and will give an update........I am so excited to spend time with my son and very excited to see the city as this will be my first time to Charleston, SC.  I'm staying at Hampton Inn - North Charleston.  Anyone stayed there before?  South Living recommends Hyman's Restaurant and Palmetto Carriage Tours; hoping to try them both :-)

hello!

my son is in class1152B so im not sure if the letter at the end means anything, but i thought i would say hi.  he started classes on Oct. 3 also.  i was looking for someone in his class to chat with and get to know.   hope you dont mind.

My son is in 1149.  Started class beginning of Sept.  Told me last weekend he phased up to phase 2 - civilian clothes on the weekend.  Would be interested to hear about your trip to S.C.  We are going over Thanksgiving weekend to deliver his vehicle to him.  I am an A.F. brat and my Dad was stationed near Charleston.  I have few memories of the area but am excited to return - mostly, though, to see our Sailor.  Enjoy your trip.

tina41, I'm not sure about the letters after the class number??? Is your son an ET?  I'll ask my son about that this weekend.  Evi, do you know?

Leann, I would love to hear about your son's experience with A-school.  Did he study 24/7, normal study time, or easy?  I haven't heard from my son since Sunday, so I'm a little concerned.  As my friend Evi said "I think the harsh reality of the classwork has hit our nuke boys over the head', hee, hee.  Is your son a ET? I'm sure he loves having civilian clothes again.  I know my son will, when that time comes for him.  He has asked that I bring homemade chocolate chip cookies and sheets????  Very strange request for him, but oh, well.  I can't wait to share my Charleston experiene with everyone.  I'm so excited!  Another N4M's friend has given me some suggestions for the area, so I'll be sure to pass those on to you as well.  My youngest son and I are also going back to Charleston for Thanksgiving.  I had to get a room at the Air Force housing, Foster Creek was already booked when I called.  My plan is to have other Sailor's over for a Thanksgiving Day meal.  Hopefully they can stomach "Southern" style food :-)

Evi, did  you hear from your nuke last night?  I've got the boys a little care package.  My youngest is the one who wants to take the goody  bags to the boys.  What type of gum or magazine does yours like?  How about fav chips/snack?

Hi Ladies! My son is in 1152MT. I was hoping to meet some people from this group. I had so much fun with the DIV 295 from Boot camp that I would like to keep that going. I haven't ask my son what the plan is for Thanksgiving as he will not be coming home so I'm sure he would love to tag along. Anyway thanks for starting this group keep in touch.

Hi Joesmama,  If your son was div 295 he must have PIR'd the week before my son did (9/16) so he must have had to wait around longer to class up?  Per my son they have a BE test Tuesday.  Rees is coming home for Thanksgiving (yeah!).

my son PIRed on sept. 16th and started classes at A school on oct. 3rd.   he is doing okay so far.

Hello Joesmama,  My son PIR 09/16/11.  I just returned from a visit with him for his 19th birthday. Great visit, I love Charleston.  Hope your son is doing well.  Mine tells me that the material isn't hard...you just have to retain it in one day!  He is still adjusting to having to study and study daily.  He seemed to be good, but leaving yesterday was the pits!  I had a mommy moment....... he is coming home for Thanksgiving, so I'm very thankful for that!

elkins--happy to hear you got to visit your son.  we are heading down for thanksgiving.  can you give me some ideas for things to do that arent expensive.    two and a half weeks till thanksgiving!!!! HOOYAH!!

I've now visited my Sailor twice in Charleston and love it!  I love the waterfront park where the pineapple fountain is and it's free!  The long pier with the swings is very relaxing.  We've stayed at the Hampton Inn in North Charleston, very nice and not too expensive.  This past weekend we stayed at Staybridge Suites in North Charleston - ask for the Navy discount $89 per night; the room had two double beds, bath, living room and small kitchen.  It only had a two eye stove top, no oven, but did have a full size frig and microwave.  They also had free DVD's to check-out, continental breakfast and an indoor pool.  Seemed very new, we liked it.  This past Saturday, we ate at Fleet Landing (original Navy dock building) and food was wonderful, you can see the menu on line, my favorite was the fried green tomatoes.  We enjoyed going through the straw market (across from waterfront park) and we also enjoyed the ghost tour; $12 adults & $10 for children.  I love going in the many art galleries, shops, etc.  There are some very nice shops on Market Street; coach, name brands, etc.  We also enjoyed just walking along rainbow row and trying to go through the many gates in town...some are private back yards, gardens, etc. you never know where you'll end up.  Another restaurant to try is Hyman's (you can print a free app. coupon on line) and A.W.Shucks...so many to choose from!  We found out that Huck's restaurant is one of the top restaurants in the US.  Our ghost tour guide said it wasn't too terribly expensive. And next door to Huck's is Poogan's restaurant and it's said to be very good and not too pricey.  My mom has done the carriage ride $18 per person (I think it was with Palmettos) and said it was very informative.  You can book the carriage rides and ghost tours online and recieve a $2 discount per person.  Look for the large bolts on the buildings downtown.  We haven't visited the Angel Oak Tree, but would like to do that in the future.  Another mom, Evi has told us about Shem Creek...we also plan to go there on our next visit.  I've gone to Southern Living Magazine a couple of times for information about Charleston.  Hope this helps!  I can't wait to hear about your visit!  Enjoy!  I'm very thankful my Sailor gets to come home for Thanksgiving and Christmas!

we are also thinking of going down for thanksgiving   it would be nice to hear how your visit went and maybe you can give us some pointers on where to stay.    i am hoping my son will be phased up to 2 by then so we can take him down some civies. clothes.
