For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Hi Kimberly, my son is also a MM at Goose Creek. His PIR was 1/28 and he classes up on 2/16. Sounds like our boys will be just a few weeks behind each other but will most likely get to know each other as well. May be that they end up in Power School together as there is quite a bit of a wait in between A-school and Power School at times - but who really knows until it gets here.
As for visitation, they have liberty most weekends unless they have mandatory study hours or watch - that's what I've learned so far from my son.

Thanks so much Penny. We won't have much time with him at graduation, so I was hoping we would get to visit him in Charleston in February or at least my early March. I would love to hear more about your son's experience as time goes along, so I will know what to expect with mine. Thanks again for your help.

You can visit him pretty much immediately :) I went to visit my boyfriend (now husband) with his parents the weekend after PIR. He'll have liberty on the weekends, but he will rules he has to go by. He'll probably have to be back by a certain time every night, and he can't drive a car until he's out of Phase 1. AWESOME INFORMATION...you have helped me tremendously. Thanks again! Any ideas for a graduation gift that he can take back to the base beofre he flies to Charleston? Is money the best thing or a phone card?

I don't think they're allowed to take anything back onto base with them before they fly out, so I would say money is a good idea. If you're going to meet him at the airport before he flies to Charleston, then you could take him his cell phone, etc and give it to him there! That's what I did :)

That is great news...I will take him his cell phone. So he will be able to communicate by his cell phone from that point forward? What about e-mails? Will he need a laptop?

If he already has a laptop, you can take that to him too. Also, depending on how much stuff you bring him, he may need a plain black backpack to carry it all in. And yes, he will be able to call and text from that point on! It's amazing :) The only time he won't be able to use his phone is when he's at work and when he goes to class. I don't think he will NEED a laptop, but having one is definitely a plus so he can email and use skype too! And the gift card ideas below are great!!

My son PIR'd 12/3 and is at GC now. He did not own a watch, so we bought his a very nice watch for his graduation gift. But yes, if you are going to the airport with him in chicago, you can bring anything you want to him at that point. He will need a completely black bag/backpack to carry it all onto the plane. The NEX card is a great idea. My son spent a lot of money when he got to GC on cleaning supplies, shampoo, soap, etc. once he got there, so the NEX card would be very helpful and the subway card as well (if he likes subway). I got my son a couple subway cards for Christmas gifts, so he doesn't have to eat at the chow hall everyday. Looks like you got some good ideas from everyone!

Kimberly - you can get him an NEX gift card. Once they get to Goose Creek, they have to buy some school supplies and cleaning stuff for their rooms. Also - a Subway gift card will come in handy. There is a mini-nex and Subway that is a frequent hangout for the sailors - especially until they get a car. Plus - they eat at the galley around 6:00 and frequently will have study hours until 10:00 or so - so are hungry. I have seen them carrying them a footlong back to their room. You may want to fix him a care package with a microwave mug, instant coffee, tea, hot chocloate, easy mac, ramen noodles, etc. Also, I sent a plastic school box (like those the kids put their supplies in) with tylenol, ibuprofen, anti diarrheal (sp?), cough drops, bandaids, neosporin, black and white thread, some needles, safety pins, etc. Good luck - this is the place to find out the answers to ALL your questions.
