While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

My son got to Charleston last Saturday. We visited today. They have leave on sat & sun but must be back at midnight.

Hi Kimberly, My son too is at GC, in the MM Program, he PIR 12/17 was able to come home for the holidays and reported to base on 12/28, he classed up the about 10 days later, they need to go thru indoc and then assigned to a class. He will have a 3 day weekend when he first arrives (2/21 is Presidents day), then they will have to go until May for the next holiday weekend. a watch is a great idea for a gift, as well as a care package with soap, shampoo, deod, laundry detergent, protien bars, alarm clock, he wont be able to take it with him - but you can mail it. from what i hear the nex is pretty expensive. For the MLK holiday last month my Husband and daughter drove down to SC, and were able to spend Sunday and part of Monday with him. S just finished the math portion, during the first few weeks, what little he was able to tell me was pretty intense. I think his biggest problem was time management, figuring out what works best for him, he lost so much weight in BC and in the first few weeks at A school, once he was able to figure it all out - he is doing well now. good luck to you and your family - your going to love PIR - the excitement you feel when those garage doors open is like no other - enjoy every moment....

Sandy, can they spend overnight on the weekends? (of course, depending on if they have watch or something) or do they have to be back on base for Saturday night?
pmgcakes, hard to imagine losing so much weight in BC...WOW Just wondering, is your son a picky eater or a slow eater and that caused him not to each much? My son said the food in BC was actually pretty good but the food in GC is great. During BC my son stayed right about the exact same weight.

Penny - we are allowed only up to the mini Nex and Subway. No further. They have leave Fri, Sat & Sun but only til midnight or 12:15 am. They have to go back each night. ITT is there as you go onto base and they offer all that info, where to go, stay and the "adventure" stuff. I hear Foster Creek Villas is very close by and does weekend villas. I dont remember seeing any motels close by.

Hi Penny - no my son was not/is not a picky eater, unfortuanely his ship had a hard time coming together and were treated to INTENSE Training... which really helped in the weight lost.. honestly it took his ship a few weeks to come together, from what i was told they were on the 3rd floor and that ship mates below them were shaking in thier boots, listening to all the 8 counts and intensive PT coming from above.. thankfully they did come together, receiving numerous flags both academic and physical towards the end of training, all proudly displayed at PIR... :)

My grandson also graduates on Feb. 18th and flies to Charleston early, early on the 19th. We are bypassing going to PIR and heading to Charleston instead, since we'll have much more time with him then. (Although we really want to see his graduation, he has requested us to do this.) We live in NC so the trip to Charleston will be much shorter than going to IL for, at most, a few hours to visit with him.

Wow ladies, this group has so much information for us new "Nuke mom's". Glad I found it. My son just arrived in GC yesterday. He got to call me from the airport. Glad to know that I can go see him ASAP! Planning on going down on the 18th-21st. My sister thankfully lives only about a 10-15 minute ride away from the base. We live only 4 1/2 hours away from there. My 18 year old son will go with me. He hasn't seen his brother in over 2 months. Should be a very nice weekend.

My son got to GC on 2/9. He said they can receive packages now. It's nothing like BC. There are 4 guys to a compartment. 2 on one side and 2 on the other. Just the 4 of them use one bathroom. So, that is a huge difference for them! My son is loving it so far. I overnighted his phone to him and he rec'd it just fine. I'm going down there today to visit. Bringing his tv, x-box, clothes, skateboard etc. Hope this does help some.
