Thanks to everybody! My son's told me the same...long grad hold for MM's after power school. My brothers a retired master chief, so I've learned to expect anything. Congrats to all you moms that have been through the first two schools! Very emotionally draining for a mom everytime he calls to tell me he didn't do well on a test . I cut the apron strings long ago, but still hard to hear one of your children disappointed in himself and there's absolutely nothing you can do, except support and encourage him. Funny thing is, he only tells ME when he doesn't do well, and not his dad or gf!LOL
Also heard they are not taking any new nukes in right now? Anyone heard that?
I've heard the opposite. Supposedly the only rates they're really allowed to recruit for right now for men are SEALs and Nukes.
Females on the other hand are other story... Which would probably be why the recruiter has tried to contact me three times now!
Hmm... Maybe in the reserves? :)
I've definitely thought about it a lot. But college is honestly the best route for me. By the time I'm done with my Senior year and graduate, I'll have enough college credits to have the status of a Sophomore.
Plus, I refuse to do a dual-military relationship... A military relationship is hard enough as it is! It'd be horrible if Aaron and I were attached to different ships, deployed at different times, and living across the country (or world!) from each other! I know it's doable, I'm just sick of this long distance crap!
Everything Darla said is right.
To add on:
As an MM, your son is probably going to experience longer hold time than EMs and ETs. It's because the Navy has the whole "pipeline" clogged with MMs. They need them in the fleet, so they're trying to get more through the pipeline, but with a shorter A school and reactors in Prototype that are continuously shutting down, the amount of time it takes an MM to get through the pipeline is increasing.
The average wait time between A school and Power School is about 2 months. It can always be shorter or longer. And the time between Power School and Prototype can be anywhere from 2 weeks to 6 months (or longer). It really just depend.
