I just thought I'd start a new discussion on Class 1137.  My son graduated BC the end of May and has been in SC waiting for class to start.  Well it sounds like they will be starting next week.

My son said he will be in class 1138 but starts Monday too -- wonder if these classes coincide with each other.  My son is an EM what is yours?

Hapsmolmr,

My son is an EM too.

Our son is in the hold pattern also, until Monday.  He says the briefings were completed this week and he is ready to get going with A school.  His roommate graduated about nine days ago and just disappeared, I'm sure for his ten day leave.  Funny but they didn't even talk to each other, didn't have issues, just didnt talk.  Guys!  We went out to Goose Creek when our son first got there to take some stuff to him and just check out where he will be and it's not the best looking city, but it seems safe on base (other then alligators and snakes).  Our son gave us his A school grad date as Sept 16.  Ours is an MM and since I just saw a reply by you that says EM below I guess he won't grad at the same time, since MMs only go three months.  Anyone else been out there?  And do your kids say that getting packages is too hard, so not to send them?  Ours does.  He says they only have a two hour window for picking them up and the line is long.

Hi Tracey,

It's funny that you mentioned that the only unsafe things about the base is the alligators & snakes.  My son said that one of their briefings this weeks was on all the critters that they might encounter on base, lol.  My son hasn't mentioned the package thing but we've only mailed one thing and that was his cellphone.  I've never been to Goosecreek  but I hope we can sometime.

I sure hope they all had a good day on their first day of classes!  :)

These come highly recommended!! Here are some reviews from loved ones like you!

"Perfectly lovely! I'll proudly present it to our accomplished graduate!"

"I am glad you found the Good Wood Store. Paymaster gave me the idea of an ensign box. I seached high and low and finally found TGW Store. I sent them the info I wanted and they created the ensign box exactly like I wanted it. The one on their website is my son's box without his name and class. They were the nicest people, prompt, good quality, and the pay was very fair. Hope you are as happy with the product as I was and my son loved it."

Just ran across this posting. I have a grandson in 1137.  Have been wondering what to send in the way of a care package.

He said he can get everything he needs there but would like to surprise him with something.  That's what Grandma's do right!

MY SON IS A SCHOOL CLASS 1137 MT , he is ET and graduating December 2, 2011. Does anyone know how long he has time off after A school and when does he have to be back to start POWER school? I checked online and cant find the answer. I'm also trying to find out holidays if they have time off? How they collect holiday time etc. After the PROTPTYPE graduation , do they get time off again? I only need to know because as a gift after graduation I want to take him to a grand vacation. ANYONE PLEASE? I have to plan ahead.

I appreciate any info//

Don't know how informative this reply will be (I haven't been checking the N4M site on a regular basis), but here goes...

First, I think the A school grad date for ET's in class 1137 MT has been moved to 12/9 or 12/16 (can't remember which one my son mentioned). Second, I've just resolved to be patient and expect things to be uncertain and constantly changing when it comes to our son's training schedule. Third, I've decided that, for once in my life, I can't plan ahead every last detail and get the best travel deals possible when it comes to attending these ceremonies. (And that's frustrating for me to get used to!) Finally, I've come to the realization that we will just not be able to share in all those momentous occasions with our son that we'd hoped to because of limited time, money, or information.

Having said that, I heard initially that they'd have over 10 days of liberty around Christmas. Now it's down to 6. I think they have to hurry back and WAIT while they class up for Power School. G-r-r-r! I don't recall the exact discussion, but I seem to recall PS starting sometime in mid or late January (if not later). Somewhere on the N4M site, I read that the graduates have two weeks to get moved from Goose Creek to Ballston Spa, NY (if that's where they're headed). Not sure what that entails as far as "time off" and what the numbers would be if they continued at GC. Don't recall reading about leave time after Prototype training, but I'm sure there is a group on N4M where you could get some idea of that.

All in all, one must understand that when all these dates occur is often determined by the academic and behavioral performance of the current class as well as ones that are following behind and ones that are running concurrently at both Goose Creek and in Great Lakes. I work with adolescents for a living. NO one can accurately predict the precise behavior of that many young adults attempting a series of difficult challenges -- emotionally and intellectually. If money were no object, I'm sure classes would start with precise regularity (the military KNOWS how to do that) even if there were only 2 or 3 students. Personally, I'd rather they do it in the most cost effective manner, even if that means waiting for a class to form. Hopefully they'll spend the extra savings on life saving technology somewhere else.

I've always said that, except for GOOD parenting, education is the hardest task in the world. Since the Navy's been doing it for a couple hundred years, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. My own personal emotional comfort is not worth risking the lives of others as a result of a future Navy nuclear accident.

Never thought my SON's enlistment in the Navy would force ME to become more patient and reflective!

Que sera sera ...
