Grad & Go PIR 4292011

Good morning, My SR is PIR 4/29/11, & headed to Goose Creek for A Nuke school. 

Can any of you tell me if your "nukes" were a grad & Go after Great Lakes?

Can you give me any input as to whether your Nuke left GL on Sat/Sun/or Monday.

I have made hotel arrangements, but I'm hessitant to make flights because if my SR leaves on Saturday, I know I'm gonna want to come home to Cali.  My hubby wants to stay through Monday evening,

Any advice as to when your SR left for GC would be greatly appreciated

Hi,  Our nuke PIR'd on Friday and his flight for CHS left out of O'Hare at 1 pm on Saturday.  We were able to spend all of Friday afternoon and early evening with him. I think he had to be back on base at GL by 8 pm? He had to be on the bus for O'Hare at 2 am (go figure only in the Navy).  We went to see him at the airport arriving around 9 am and met him at the large USO lounge which is outside the security zone.  Had breakfast with him and some of his buddies. We gave him his cell phone and some other stuff at O'Hare since they are no longer under the strict control of RTC once they get off the bus.  It appears that the lower the number the division your sailor is within the 10 or so divisions graduating, the more likely it is they will be "grad and go".  I think it has something to do with "first in, first out".  Hope this helps.  Enjoy PIR!

When will he leave for his Nuke A School ???

 

He will fly out on Boot Camp Graduation Day, the next Day, or one of the following days.

The exact day will be determined by his Division Number and the Number of Divisions graduating that same day, and other factors.

 

How do I estimate, early on, when his division will fly out ???

Determine when his Division Graduates and How Many other Divisions Graduate the same Day, how to do this is described further below.

Example: February 11th, 2011 graduating divisions:

063–074, 804 & 912 ( 14 divisions )

Division 63,65,65 & 66 - between 3 AM and 5 AM next day ( SAT ) bus pickup           navy bus delivers them to airport terminal or charter plane

Division 071 - between 3 AM and 5 AM following TUE bus pickup
navy bus delivers them to airport terminal or charter plane

Sailors delivered to terminal wait until later that day or evening for fly out.

As you can see the Navy just scheduled flights out each day starting with the lowest number division and working up. Capacity limitations determine how many divisions go out each day. There has to be some system for scheduling and this is the current one used at Navy Boot Camp.

You must, of course, know your sons Division, which you will, after receiving the first form letter from Boot Camp, about 7-10 days into Boot Camp.

 

How do I verify my estimate as his division's graduation gets closer ???

Sailors will be advised of when their division ships out when they get closer to the end of Boot Camp. That information is often posted in various places on this Web site by loved ones who learned by letter or telephone call. Look at the Pass In Review Date ( Graduation Date ) Group that matches your son's division's graduation date ( the divisions PIR date).

The above is an example you must locate the PIR group for your sons graduation date.

 

There are Groups set up for each Boot Camp Graduation date, aka PIR date.  There are also often Groups and/or Discusion Forums set up for each division and ship.

 

The above are all good places to look to see what Recruits are being told about when their divisions will be picked up and taken to the Airport after graduation.  Of course letters and phone calls home from your recruit are always the best source.

My son PIR'd on 12-3-10.  We got to spend the rest of that Friday after the graduation ceremony with him, and then all day Sat and Sunday till we had to take him back to base around 8 or 9 each night.  I was driving and so had to leave early Monday morning.  I was sorry we weren't going to be able to see him that day, but he told me on Sunday that he had a lot of paperwork and stuff to do Monday so wouldn't have been able to visit with us much anyway.  He didn't fly out to Charleston until Tuesday.

Hi, we got our son after PIR for Liberty until 6pm then he left for airport at 3am Saturday for Goose Creek.  I'm sure it is different each time depending on the schedule, but your recruit should know what the plan is a few weeks before graduation.  Hope that helps.

hey luvdmom...my son is ship3, div 152.  He's a nuke too, at least until I hear otherwise!!

It's hard to hear the stories about kids that have an medical condition and get sent home...my heart

aches for them and their families, but I know God will provide a path for them.

  From the other comments, sounds like our boys will either ship out Saturday or the following Tuesday.  I think we

have DIV 149-156 and 924.  With our boys being in the middle of the pack (151 and 152) it's hard to say when

they'll take off.  I'm guessing it will be Saturday...?????

My son's in div155 and he's told me twice that they're leaving either on the day of the graduation or early the next day for A school. (he's also going nuke)

I've booked flights and hotel until Monday but I've never been to Chicago so I thought I might as well make the best of it.

My son just graduated boot camp in march - he was NOT a grad & go.   He had til that following Tuesday before they shipped him out with the others to Goose Creek.  

I made my flight reservations through Southwest Airlines - because they do not charge any change fees if you have to change your flights.   Hopefully SW has a flight from where you live.   And the hotels there are great working with you on last minute cancellations.

 

Best of luck to your Nuke.     Mine just started his schooling this last week.  Had a couple weeks of waiting.

When you look up your Pass in Review date,you will need to PRINT OUT YOUR PASS that they will check before you inter the gate at Grad.dont wont to forget that.........My ET sailor Grad.1-15-10 and was Grd. and Go.we did get to spend the Friday with him, he had to be back at 8;00pm that evening,we met him at the airport at 4;00am Sat, morn.his plane left at 10;35 to Charleston Sc.we had booked the Navy Lodge in Wauhakgen until Mon. and flight out Mon.to tell you the truth I was ready to come back home the Sat, it was so cold at the time and we were dissapointed we didnt get to spend much time with our sailor but that is how the story goes.....we couldnt be prouder.I have been to A school grad.Power school Grad. but I have to tell you as for me,I was so so amazed with the bootcamp Grad.it was the best! you will enjoy every minuete of it and oh my wait till you see your sailor man for the first time,you will be so pleased....good luck to your sailor

My step-son-to-be was a Grad and Go last year (almost exactly a year ago!)  His PIR was on Friday and he left late Friday night.

Hi - my sailor was PIR 4/15/2011.... he originally said he'd be going to the airport Saturday morning at 3am, but we ended up getting an extra day with him and he left Sunday morning with all of the other NUKEs. 37 of them showed up to the airpot at 4am to fly out at 7am!
