OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Graduation Ceremony for Power School
I'm sure it's been discussed earlier about the Power School graduation. I know it's outdoors and that we need tickets. What else can you tell me? The invitation says "informal wear". Being from Florida that means wear your best flip flops. Could you tell me what to expect and how long the ceremony lasts? What happens after the ceremony?
p.s. What is the weather like right now?

Hi,
I went to my son's friends Power School graduation in February several years ago and since it was outdoors in February, being warm was the order of the day. By informal, you don't need coats and ties for the gentlemen or dresses for the ladies, but you will want to be dressed in nice clothes. The sailors will be in their dress uniforms and since it is a special occasion, you will feel better if you dress up a little bit. Hope this helps. You can go to weather.com and put in Charleston and find out what the weather forecast is. We were there a couple of weeks ago and it was in the 70's in the afternoon and the 50's in the evening. Have a wonderful graduation and I hope this helps. -

A few minutes before the ceremony begins, each class will stand as a group for photo ops. Once the ceremony begins, there is a speaker, probably 15-20 minutes, then each class. Our son's power school had an officer class, then the MM's, the EM's, then the ETs. They are very good about letting each person take a picture that wants to. Once the ceremony was over, they announced that the dignataries would stay as long as needed for pictures - whether of them with your sailor, family, whatever. Everyone just wandered away after that - your sailor will probably need to check out from the barracks. The rooms have to be inspected before they can leave. Our son graduated June 2009, the ceremony probably lasted about an hour or so. Have a good time.

Please come and say hello to us. I will be on the look out for you as well. I am itty bitty...5 feet...and will be with my daughter...same height...and my daughter in law ( super tall )....and my in-laws....I hope that helps pick us out from the group.

And he called tonight to make sure we were coming! Wahoo - wait.........did I die and I just haven't figured it out yet?!!! Am I sick and everyone knows but me? Argh.........snapping back to reality.............when he was home over Labor Day we had a heart to heart. I didn't ask why he didn't call or ask for an explanation about the silence, but I did talk about the letters and emails I had sent. He just didn't realize that I would move heaven and earth for him. On the one hand - Wait a go, Mom! On the other hand - Mother, what were you thinking? At least he acknowledged that he had never realized what it was like to be on the other end.

You instilled this foundation for him....it is just becoming apparent as he is maturing and drawing from his roots, that he was given in his early childhood. Pat yourself on the back...job done well, enjoy your pay off and relish in his achievement, as you played a great role in it.
Hope to see you in a few days....and I too will have a huge smile on my face and tears of joy and pride in my eyes.
We don't even need Santa anymore...our dreams have become our reality! -

I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that this isn't a dream! Matt's going to Ballston Spa and is really looking forward to a change of scenery. His sister moved a month ago to NY and they're going to be about 3 - 3 1/2 hours apart. I think this is the best thing to happen to both of them.
Where will your son go to next?

He somehow was able to request to stay in Goose Creek. And they did not get orders to go to Ballston Spa...so they were lucky. They really enjoy it there, and find living on base to be an easier way to share one car. Andrew is an ET and will not be on hold...so I guess they are going to be there for around 6 months...and then...orders...to a new location. Since they had wanted to stay..we are pleased for them.
Remember to look for us. I will also be looking for you too. So many of us , are now more than 1/2 way through this program...and have learned so much.
You are lucky that you will have 2 children in the same state...that makes it easy.
