OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

How long to move off base after Power School if staying in GC?
Hi!
I know a few people answered, but thought I would start a discussion so that it will hopefully get more traffic. My bf graduates power school March 8 and just wondering when he would be able to move off base if he is staying in Goose Creek.

Is anyone staying in Goose Creek these days?
Some weeks ago my son mentioned they had put starting any new proto-type classes at Goose Creek on hold indefinitely.
Regarding when they move out of the BEQ, for my son, it was when they needed the room he was living in while attending Power School, and it was on short notice during the week before finals at the Community College he was attending during his two month hold after Power School.
They offered him ( and other single guys ) the option to rent excess enlisted married housing that was sitting empty on base, which he took with one of his buddies as a roommate to share the costs.
That was a great deal if you can get it. Three bedroom and they left the master suite for guests. They make money on the deal (BAS exceeds rent) No deposit. No apartment hunting, no having to choose between a long drive to and from base or cock roaches near base :)

what a great idea will let my sailor know .. after gradation from power school he said it might be 6 mo or more before prototype

Congratulations on your son passing Power School, that seems to be the hardest for most of them.
Was for our son anyway.
Not sure what is going on in New York, but based on what is happening with delays of existing prototype classes in GC, New York might be something to hope for.
A year ago some MMs graduating from power school were being shipped to Georgia when their holds were expected to be longer than 6 months. Back then it was a matter of which type of Nuke was needed in the fleet, and MMs were not on the top of that list.
Today long holds may be for other reasons.

Not sure if anyone answered. But if your boyfriend is put into Grad Hold, he won't be able to move off base until he gets put into pre-fill or a Prototype class.
When Aaron went through (we weren't married yet), he was scheduled to start Prototype immediately after his leave, so he was required to be moved off base the Thursday before Graduation. It was the same for his roommate who was put into pre-fill, so he was immediately detached from NNPTC and had to report to NPTU where he waited for a class. For them, they took comp on Tuesday, cleaned classroom on Wednesday, Graduation practice Thursday morning and had to turn their keys in for their barracks room by Thursday afternoon (including getting EVERYTHING moved out and someone signing off on their room), then Graduation Friday.
If they're going to have Grad hold though, they'll still be attached to NNPTC and will stay in their barracks room until they're detached. :)
Hope that helps! It can be a little stressful having to find an apartment the week or two before grad like Aaron did and then moving out immediately, but it can be done. :)

I have 2 boys in Power school right now. We are planning on going to the graduation in May. Can you tell me how big this graduation is?

It's a pretty large event. I'm really awful at estimating numbers of people, but I'd say at least 150-200 parents were there plus all of the sailors. Size wise it's less than PIR, but the ceremony is just as a big of deal if not bigger than PIR. They have a guest speaker come and speak and then each of the guys/gals name is called and they walk across the stage, shake a few hands, and stop for pictures along the way.

November 2012 my son graduated Still on grad hold, still @NNPTC waiting. Some graduated after him have gone to Prototype...but as he put it "I haven't won the lottery yet". He said there are still a half dozen sailors from the November class and they are some of the "High Score" group. He also said its all in the luck of the draw...whenever they pick your name and they have created a bottleneck in Ballston Spa; being the only up and running Prototype station???

Interesting, my understanding was the Navy was planning, and recruiting, based on two proto-type reactors running at Goose Creek and one in NY for some months. If both reactors in Goose Creek are down again, that has implications.
This impacts not only students going through training with delays, but Sailors in the fleet will have to start pulling port and starboard shifts as their more senior co-workers separate from the Navy and the replacements are delayed.
