Our new Sailor arrived late and was placed with a newly- graduated- from -power school- Sailor.  He was glad for all the wise advice he received especially concerning "breakfast routine" on Sunday morning.  Next came advice on settingup the room and stowing all his stuff.  Don't know how long this  Sailor will remain in GC, but we are thankful for him already!  My guess is that the newly arriving Nuke Sailors will be on hold until their classes start.  I would appreciate any advice or information on the indoctrination process for these new Sailors.  Thanks,     PS.  We really enjoyed PIR this past weekend!

Hi KAM Mom - welcome to your sailor!  Glad he made it safely to GC & is getting situated.  Nice that he has a helpful roommate ;-)

Your sailor may be on hold for a couple of weeks - be sure to look at  "Your Sailors Schedule Upon Arrival to GC" on the front page of nuke mom's - it's to the right under member profiles.  This will give you an idea of the timeline and what to expect.

Get ready for a wild ride!

he said that his orders were written for June 1....but said he had to report immediately.  His guess is that his classes would begin on June 1.  He may know more after today.  Thanks for the advice.  Is all that info listed above still the current schedule?  I am especially interested in the bit about having his car after 4 weeks....is that 4 weeks after he begins classes?  It also looks like the ET's and the EM's have very similar classes except for a few at the end.  Hope they can begin soon and will not have to be on hold too long.

A Wild Ride indeed.   I have heard about that!!!! We are close to him and will be able to see him a good bit.  Also his GF and sister are very close within half an hour.  He had liberty and was able to leave base with her for a few hours.  I am praying that the extra family support will be an encouragement to him.   I hear that the best advice is to "take it one day at a time" and use time wisely.....of course 'study hard' goes without saying.  This will bring a different kind of stress for him, but he has matured since his days in college.  We will take any encouragement that you will give us....thanks already!!!!  Here we go!!!

Our new Sailor also was thankful to have two experienced Nukes to room with -- was grateful for all their advice.  :-)

Check that -- one he rooms with, the other is next door. :-) I'm already planning a trip to SC -- checking out hotel options, etc., rentals, routes... dates. Need more info from our son first, to know when the best time to plan for a visit will be (schedule).

Does he know how long they will be staying at GS?   Our Sailor said his roommate would only be there about a month.  Wonder if new PIR guys will come in their places?

sorry I can't help on hotels.  We live close enough to drive and we also have a daughter/SIL living about half hour away.   Hope you can find something nice and not too costly.

Are you going this weekend?

Hi to any of the new Nuke Mom's out there.   Our Sailor is still waiting to "class up"....that is to begin his A school classes.   He said  that the classes for ET EM and MM start on alternate weeks.  So, from some of the comments I have read, we will not know the graduation date for A school until we have a firm start date.   In the mean time, our Sailor ET is enjoying access to internet, cell phone and having liberty on the weekends.  He thinks perhaps he will get a new room mate from the class that just finished BC this week or will get one from the class next week.  His former one had finished both A and C school and was  on hold waiting to his next class.   Apparently, these days are fairly easy even though they do have PT and inspections.  He seems very pleased.  Best to any new Nuke moms.

Our Sailor's class number is 1536!  He had to wait to class-up with other ET's and perhaps EM's so some of the Sailors may have arrived a week or two after our did.   I have another discussion for those in this class.  Come and let us know who you are....well sort of!!
