Hi guys!

I'm engaged to an SR set to graduate 9/9/11, and I'm desperately trying to get down to Charleston to be with him. So I've been looking around for jobs, and I MIGHT have something.

The only thing that might be a catch is the housing situation. I'm entry level, so I don't know if they think the position is worth relocation costs (though hopefully that'll be up for negotiation). I started out in the media industry where those costs definitely AREN'T, so to go for a salaried position with benefits is strange and foreign to me. I'll know more later this week, I hope.

Anyway, the SR and I are planning on getting married right away, and hoping the Navy can help with relocation (we lived together for two years before he joined, so all his things are with me). But since that's still almost two months away, I'm looking for something to last me in the meantime.

I'll need something for about a month, maaaaybe a few more weeks. Do you have any recommendations as to where I can look? Do any of you guys have rooms for rent? I can get recommendations... :-)

Hey cinechic!

The Navy probably (I say probably) won't pay for your move. However, the sooner you get married, the sooner you get housing. If he's quick about the paperwork, you can get married one day, and move in within a week. :)

I'm not completely sure of rooms to rent... But you could check out the Villas if you'd like. They're apartment style old housing units that they rent out like hotel rooms. A two bedroom is 60 a night, no taxes. Your sailor would have to book them for you however.

Good luck!

As far as moves, it won't be an official NAVY or DITY move, but there are different funds available for your soon-to-be Sailor to move "his" stuff (wink wink) once he does make the move into housing. I can't remember for the life of me what it's called right now, but I'm sure his SLPO or Chief will be able to make some suggestions.
Phase 3 is generally less than 12 weeks in (about 4 weeks per phase).....My sailor arrived in GC 4/18, started A school 5/9 and was in phase 3 6/24 :)
Dude. I was talking to a girl the other day and told her that Phase 3 was at week 12. But she corrected me. :) Phase 3 begins at week 10 if everything goes well. :)

Yeah, we were planning on getting married first chance we got. And I'd rather live on base to make things easier for him.

Sooo. Can you create a hypothetical timeline so that maybe we can give you more advice?

Yeah!

We've lived together for just shy of two years. (August 1, 2009 - July 18, 2011)

He left for BC on the 18th.

If all goes well he graduates on September 9th.

He'll be down in Charleston the next day, so hopefully we'll be getting married on Sept. 17th.

My problem is that if I get this job I'll have to be down there sometime before the 1st. I can't afford the move and I don't know if they'll pay (it's entry level, I don't know if they'll think it's worth it and I'd rather have the job and pay for the relocation myself then lose out). And like I said, I'd rather live on base with my SR, so I don't want to actually MOVE until after we get married.

Girl, you could probably get married before the 17th if you wanted. Like, the 10th or 12th. Just sayin. :)

Sooo. You don't want to get an apartment, right?
Are you looking for like cheap hotel type thing?

I know we could, but we have to wait for the weekend - our parents are okay with going to the justice, but they want to be there (his fam still has school-age kids, thus the weekend).

Right, i don't want a lease. Maybe 2 months at the most,

Ohh gotcha. Well then that makes sense..

Hmm. I'll do some looking.
