Hello all-haven't been here in quite some time and now my daughter is graduating from Prototype Sept. 17th-but I see no mention  of this on here and it's making me a bit nervous. At first she told me parents couldn't go at all but now she says they can (how can a girl be first in her class yet be just a bit on the blond side at others??? lol). Anybody out there with any info it would be much appreciated!

My son graduated in Dec. 09 as an EM but the prototype grad was no big deal according to him. He said all they do is hand you a certificate and that everyone was ready to head out whether a home for a break or on to their new assignment. I know we did not receive an invitation. I think it is kinda anti climatic. For some they may have passed the written and oral comps three to four weeks prior so are just waiting to get on to the next step in their career.
Thanks for the info. I didn't get an invitation either but I think I am going to make it for this one anyways. I've not gotten to either of her other ones (did get to her PIR, but that was more like I was being reunited with my only daughter some unimaginable-on my part-near death experience than it was a simple graduation! lol She is #1 in her class and I am pretty proud of her and I think I will go show her myself! Besides, does anyone REALLY need an excuse to visit Charleston one more time?! :)
Hi Connie - Congrats on your daughter being #1 in her class. My Nuke is also graduating on September 17th but like Gulf Coast Mom said there isn't a formal ceremony involved. Of course you're right - who needs a reason to make a trip to Charleston?

Has your daughter received her orders yet??
Hi Marybeth!
My daughter is going to be doing the extra 13 weeks of schooling (I think it's ELT-not sure) after she gets back from leave. So she will be in SC for awhile yet. I know she would like to go to Washington state eventually but don't think she knows yet. Does your son know where he will be going? Are you going to see him graduate? I am thinking you may be the same Marybeth I met at the PIR meet and greet so long ago now. Wow-I guess we have all come along way and time really does fly by way too fast! Nice hearing from you!
Connie
Hi Connie! I saw that your daughter is doing the extra training to become an ELT. How did she decide to do this and how does she think this will impact her career after the navy? (My son is in power school now and is considering this but is not sure if it is a good decision financially in the long run. He has really enjoyed the chemistry part of power school, though.) Thanks in advance for the info.
On another note, I am very excited for power school grad to get here!
I have been searching and searching for some info on my son's issue. He is suppose to graduate on 9-17. He has been ahead in all of the requirements and he took his orals last Tuesday (8-24). He has not communicated with us until last night when we got one line of info. He failed his orals, his superiors think its bulls***, he is angry/depressed, and it will "all be over in 14 days" and he will call us than. Does anyone have any experience with this?? I don't know if this info is known by all the sailors and I don't want my son to get mad at me, but I sure would like a heads up on what his options are.
Sorry Peggy-I don't have any idea about what might be up with your son. I know that when my daughter first started this last schooling I received a letter stating that if we ever felt our kids were having some problems we could call and then they gave the phone number to call I believe. Do you still have that letter? Perhaps that might be a way to go and maybe they would keep it confidential that you did call so your son wouldn't know. That is the only thing I can think of. I hope you hear from him soon!
Connie
Hi Peggy. I have no idea either. But, I can email my son. He was an instructor at prototype in SC a little over a year ago and perhaps he can tell me what the procedure is. I'm not sure when I'll hear back from him, he is currently out to sea. But, I will certainly ask because I completely understand your concern and wanting to know what happens from here. I'll let you know if I hear anything back from him. Hugs!
thank you so much for just answering! I have found info about what happens if there are problems earlier in the program, but not at this last step. Thank your son for his service for me! Oh, mine is at NY if that makes a difference.
It's no problem. I got an answer back from him and I sent you a a private message! :-)
Hello Connie,
My son also had NO information for us. He is in Ballston Spa, NY right now with orders for the USSN Rhode Island as soon as he graduates. Anyone else out there with a child in NY going to GA?
Elisa
