I can't keep track of all the new arrivals. Know that there was a class from BC PIR last week of Oct with over 20 Nukes, PIR 11/4 had at least 8, believe there are some more in the next few classes. Would like to have an easy referral site so I can remember that all of you are in about the same stage as my son. Probably going thru alot together.

Spoke to my son today, he said he was very excited that we are coming for Thanksgiving and even more excite that I am cooking a Thanksgiving dinner for him and a couple of his buddies. I am so glad that we got a villa at Foster Creek. Told him that if there is anyone that doesnt have some where to go to invite them to Thanksgiving. I am use to cooking for 35 to 40 people each year. I already know that I have bought way to much food for the less than 10 people that will be there. I am glad he likes left overs.
My son had PIR 10/14 and is class 1205A...his grandparents live in VA and are picking him up from GC for Thanksgiving....we are driving from Ohio and will meet up for a few days.
My ET says he starts clases next week.
I am in South Carolina with my Sailor and he got an overnight pass for tonight so he doesn't have to back to base until midnight tomorrow night. I am so excited to spend some time with him.
My Sailor arrived GC this morning - with a group from PIR 11/23. I think there were more than 15 in his division alone headed there today. Am looking forward to learning more from you veterans about the area as we may be there for Christmas!
Hi everybody...my son's PIR was 11/18. He's in GC right now, waiting to class up starting Monday. We just finished Skypeing (I feel so 2009 :) He's really looking forward to getting going. I just have to figure out how to "refer" to him...on his FB page he has "Machinist Mate Fireman". I have a feeling this is going to be a helluva ride! :)
Waiting for my husband to get back home from taking our sailor to the airport so he can head back to GC. It was terrific to have him home for a few days and he starts briefings tomorrow for his class. I already miss him!!
buffalonawmom~ did your son come home after BC? Or is this a break they get occasionally? Sorry if I'm a little behind, my son was supposed to go last August but contracted viral meningitis and was delayed a year. He's now leaving on December 1st........I haven't been on here much this time around.....I think I'm in denial. I'm going to miss him so much! Unlike other moms and families, I may not be able to go to his graduation. This is killing me! We live in WA on an island and my husband has been laid off......... unless something changes soon there is no way we'll be able to go see him. Sounds like most of you are able to..... anything you can tell me about his time off or how vacation works when they have classes will be helpful.
Thank you! Kathy
Wow Kathy, he really was dedicated to keep going and still enlist. Must be very hard for you, I imagine he was quite ill. My husband was laid off this year too, so I know how very hard it is to spend money on trips. Perhaps you can sign up for some email notifications for fare sales. I know that Virgin America recently had one that made the flight very inexpensive. But don't buy tickets until he has the date of his PIR. I believe that buffalonawmom got to see her Sailor because of the Thanksgiving holiday, so was really a result of the timing of his BC. I stayed on Nuke Moms even when I was watching DEPS AND BOOTCAMP MOMS, you will find lots of support here.
Kathy - he was home for Thanksgiving. We managed to go to Chicago for his PIR from boot camp. Most of them got the rest of that day and left in the early morning for Goose Creek. It's my understanding that the nuke schools follow a lot of the normal school schedules and stand down for most of the major holidays. My son got liberty for Thanksgiving and is hoping to get leave granted for Christmas. I think there is a Spring break as well. Otherwise they are supposed to get some time after each school, but i'm not sure if they have to apply for leave or not to come home. My son is a MM so his A school should be 14 weeks, i believe ET and one other type of A school are for 26 weeks. Then they all go to power school for 26 weeks and prototype for 26 weeks.
