Hi,
I'm trying to plan a visit for my boyfriends graduation from power school. I will not have a car to drive while up there because I do not want to deal with the extra costs of being under 25. Based on that fact and the fact I do not know if he will have leave that weekend I am having a difficult time deciding what hotel to stay in. I would just like some insight on what hotels are the easiest to stay in and to get to base from without a car?

Days Inn is about 1.5 miles down the road from the base and is the closest thing there is but I can't say that I recommend walking it. The Villas are on base but even further, from what I've heard to where you can meet your sailor (Subway). But if your sailor has a car, the Days Inn is right there so all he has to do is get to his car and he is there in five minutes. I stayed there twice while visiting GC and the Food Lion is really close, along with KFC and Hardees (for food).
Villas- hands down. They are on base in the middle of base housing. Days Inn would be second closest, but personally I would feel safer, especially if I was staying by myself, in the Villas. Your boyfriend will have to call/stop by the ITT office (in the same building as the uniform shop across from the Dive) and reserve a room for you to stay in though.
To give you an idea of how that last week of Power School goes:
Monday- They study their butts off.
Tuesday- Take comp. Find out at like 6 that night if they passed.
If they pass:
Wednesday - Turn in books, burn notes, clean classroom. I flew in this day for Aaron's graduation. And he was able to leave a little early to come pick me up. Honestly, we thought he'd be done by noon or two at the latest, but they were there for the full school day and actually a little more. I believe his friends said they finally got out of there at 4:30. Aaron was able to stay in the hotel in N. Charleston with me that night. His Chief said he didn't give a crap where they stayed or what they did after Tuesday as long as they were where they were supposed to be and weren't late and they didn't get in trouble. I'm not sure if everyone is allowed, but that's how it was for us.
Thursday- Graduation practice. He had to report at like 7 or 8 am. And they stay until they are done which depends on the cooperation of everybody. Aaron was out of there before noon, but I've heard some classes get done at like 10 while others have to stay until 2. Just depends on how long it takes. After that they're free. We had to get Aaron checked out of his barracks room and into his apartment for the rest of the afternoon.
Friday - Graduation. If he doesn't get leave, he'll still be free for the rest of the weekend right after graduation is over. I believe it was over by 11 that morning and we had the rest of the day to do whatever we wanted. Aaron had leave right away so we left on Sunday, but like I said, even if he doesn't get leave right away, he shouldn't have to report back until Monday morning.
Hope this helps a little bit. I'd definitely stay in the Villas if I were you. :)
If you have any questions, just let me know. :)
Thanks! I'll check into this once they open today, I was told there wasn't anything like this by my boyfriend lol. I've seen other places where I can do it myself so I'm going to try if not I'm gonna have to send him to do it.
I am back to square one, I was too late to reserve a villa for that weekend since it is graduation, guess I should have done my research sooner. He is going to ask his chief where the best place for me to stay is. I'm starting to lean at more towards Charleston so everything we want to do could be within walking distance.
