Good question, Jody! I'll be there, too. All I know is there are two NEX stores there and I'm planning on getting some Navy stuff, for sure.
They will be selling items near the graduation which if weather permits will be outside. They sell glasses shirts etc.
Jody, It has been 3 yrs. since I was there but think the graduation ceremony is the same. About 15 min before the ceremony starts, they are called to attention according to their group number. Great opportunity to take pictures. Also during the ceremony when each sailor receives his certificate, you are encouraged to come up close to take a picture. They turn toward you when they are shaking the sailors hand and makes for a GREAT picture.
Try not to miss buying the NNPTC Challenge Coin available at graduation.
Yes!
Good morning, my son graduating Power School 12/2/12 and it was beautiful - freezing cold, but beautiful. Regarding souveniers, prior to the ceremony there will be a table set up outside one of the buildings there (not Rickover but the one where the mailroom and rec area are). You will be able to buy covers, shirts, dog collars, etc. About pictures, no worries - as the CO will encourage everyone to come up front near to the stage when your sailor's division is up for receiving their certificates. Also, prior to the formal graduation, all of the sailors will be standing in formation by division behind all of the chairs. This is a perfect time to get lots of pictures of your sailor with his division and also any other sailors photos for moms that are not able to make it!! Other than that, if there is anything else you need info on or I haven't covered, please let me know.
hello all!! ceremony
it is a very nice ceremony!! we got there about 30 minutes early ( there was a little traffic going onto base. have IDs of everyone in your vehicle ready to show at the gate, at least we had to). we were able to hang out with my son until they had to get in formation. maybe try to learn where you can meet your sailor or where he will be standing for formation. there is a lot of people and about half of them have white on!! ENJOY IT AND THE TIME WITH YOUR SAILOR!!!!
Thank you everyone for your insight and great tips!! I'm so excited:)
